The change rooms are pretty good, but that's not the point. It's just getting to and from the ground to the change rooms that people are going on about.

mal i dont believe it to be any issue at all as all those people that were in that area were tiger fans apart from you if our club players coaching staff trainers orange peelers dont see it as an issue why would a leg supporter see it as an issue for our teams safety, after all it was at prospect not iraq.

Ive heard that some spectators escaped Bagdad Central safe and well, I didn't risk it electing to stay home for the first time in many years but I was concerned with security and with all those recent incidents that were listed its just not worth the risk to one's self.
I hope anyone that had family and friends there today have heard from their love ones.

Matty Lokan was copping it big time at 3/4 as he was walking back to his position. He was giving it back just as good too I might add...

The player ?
The player ended up in jail for about a couple of weeks ?

Anyone recall this one ?
Was it during or after the game ?

The player was Sid Simeon, a WA recruit who played his 1st and only league match for Norwood in Round 1 1965. He kicked 2 goals in a loss to Woodville and was dropped the following week.

The match in question was the final minor round game in 1965. Simeon had played reserves that day, and I understand he'd had a few refreshments during the day. Central got up by 4 points in the dying seconds, and after the siren sounded Simeon jumped the fence and attacked umpire Brian Lees.

Fortunaly, the only injuries received by Lees was hurt pride and a torn shirt sleeve. On the other hand, Simeon received 10 days imprisonment, not sure of the amount of the fine, and wasn't at Norwood in 1966.

Speaking of players copping one from opposition supporters, didn't Rick Davies cop an umbrella over his head from an irate Port supporter after the 1976 Grand Final?

I've got another incident where a field umpire was attacked by a spectator, during the game! It was the 1975 Preliminary Final, Norwood v Port Adelaide. It was mid-late final term, Norwood had taken control of the game when a short, portly man ran onto the ground and wrestled with umpire Robin Bennett. It looked a little funny because they were in a wrestle hold and the top of the man's head didn't even reach Bennett's shoulders.

Boundary umpires ran in to help, and then 4 police officers ran in to assist (no Weslo people in those days). The four police offers had a hell of a time trying to get the guy off the field as he was digging in his heels and resisting arrest. I've got one photo here of Neil Craig in the background finding the whole thing terribly amusing.

Finally a fifth officer assisted and they managed to pick him up and carry him off the ground. He was seen still kicking and screaming as they took him down the players' race.

After the game a ring of police circled umpire Bennett but there was no further incident.

Apparently the man collapsed whilst being escorted from the oval and was taken to the QEH.

It was later disclosed that a 30 year old Mansfield Park man was charged with assault and having resisted arrest.

In view of the fact Norwood had taken control of the match, and the man was from Mansfield Park, it was safely assumed he was a Port Adelaide supporter, although we didn't know that for certain.

1976
The Jumbo Prince
I was one of those people on the ground that day in a great ST Grand final win
Sturt were doing a lap of honour
A lady struck the Jumbo prince in the face with her umbrella
I reckon The Jumbo prince needed stitches near his eye from that lady
Could have been poked in the eye so I guess Rick was lucky

I was a teenage NW barracker in 1976
Rick Davies was my favourite opposition player
Loved it when he was that sensational leaping ruckman and the star full forward later
Still have memories of Rick swivelling his jawline chewing on what must have been chewing gum
