Interesting to see that Kirkwood tagged Allen after 1/4 time and was given 2nd best for Port and Allen was given best for North??

Backline was fantastic for Port. Trengrove was outstanding as was Thurgood.
Sam Mardling is starting to really show some form.

Brad Murray must have had 10 clearances out of the middle, and he would be a genuine Magarey chance if Port had won more games.

Umpiring was disgraceful all day. North got everything in that first quarter, but it was pretty even after that.

Was pretty good without starring, tucked the ball under the arm and went for a couple of nice runs along the outer wing.

Thanks mate ... I was ultra impressed with what I saw of him the week before and IMHO is definitely one to keep an eye on.

He is going to be a very good player for a number of years. Took a while to break into the league side (i thought he should have been given a go earlier) but has done really well since given a go. I know Timmy loves him.

Yeah he came through the juniors. The good signs for Port yesterday were that he played well, as did Kirkwood and Mardling. All younger blokes that have come through the system...

In the reserves Matt Rose was best on ground, in his first game of reserves footy, after playing in the U18 comp, so there are some good kids coming through.

Yeah Macca is a gun. Hes 20, won the U19s BnF 2 years back, Played U18 state footy a couple years back and was one of the stars of the U19s premiership sides. Had a good grounding in the ressies last year and has played some great footy in the league side this year. Hes the sort of player in my opinion that could be a future leader.

From the only time I saw him he appeared to run in straight lines with plenty of toe and used the ball well ... Looks a bright prospect for sure

Port done a great job beating Norths 18 on the ground plus the 2 other maggots!

Can't argue with that too much. First quarter North easily had the better of the umpiring. After that it evened out but at the end of the day Port deserved to win and did. Port have had their fair share of umpiring help over the years though particularly a number 11 who was never able to make the step up to the next level.

Thats a cracker rod_rooster, if that bloke was given the free's he deserved he would of kicked 200 in a year!
As for AFL atleast he had a crack rod, if its the bloke i think your talking about 38 games & 100 goals at the Crows, i wouldn't say he never made the step up.

No i thought the umpiring was disgraceful all day. North got everything in the first quarter, but after that it was still disgraceful, it just went both ways.
North were pinged a 25m penalty for handballing the ball in the air too high when giving the ball back. It was rediculous, it happens 50 times a game.
The free kick against Hall in the last quarter when it was a 50/50 contest was a very poor decision.

And we generally find that the clubs that don't care about their juniors are the ones that don't put a lot of effort into it.

When the kids are drafted into the AFL the clubs do benefit - financially.

The SANFL created the U18s and wanted it to be an elite competition, hence the Centre of Excellence.

North decided to do there own thing and have decided to play the capable kids in the reserves before the SANFL requested date.

North are one of the clubs making a mockery of the U18 cpmpetition.

I claim Port Adelaide has a bright future based on a consistent season of winning. The U18, Centre of Excellence has been winning by an average margin of 15-20 goals almost every week.

In addition, approximately 80% of the Reserves side have come through that very program.

And in addition to that, about half of the League side have also come through that program.
