The story JAS posted about the Jurgen Melzer betting patterns is intriguing. Merzer defeating Odesnik is hardly unusual or unexpected - a straight sets win would be quite expected for Melzer surely. It's certainly not unusual for players to carry injuries into games - Jelena Dokic for one, Dimitry Tursunov in both first round games were known to be less than fully fit (and in the latter's case, he withdrew in his game), so the implications suggested are intriguing.
Some good games looming in the next day or so. Federer plays German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the next round. On paper, looks an easy one for the champ, but the latter can be tricky at times, and may push Federer a little more than expected. Marin Cilic faces Tommy Haas, and Ivo Karlovic tackles Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in another very interesting matchup.
Think the unseeded Italian Tathiana Garbin can spring an upset on 20th seed Anabel Medina Garriques, and the possibility of a third round encounter between Samantha Stosur and Ana Ivanovic is brimming, although the latter has a real danger game against the tricky Sara Errani to navigate first. Unseeded Spainard Carla Suarez Navaro looks a great chance tonight of an upset win over Russian Ekaterina Makarova also.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
