Id love the SANFL to pull out of the AFL. If we did and invented a new 10th SANFL team named "the adelaide crows football club" to eliminate the bye. I guarantee over 50% of the crows goobers would jump on.

Advantage for the crows fans the crows will play a game every week in SA. The SANFL brings back some player retention scheme, gives a little bit extra cash to the ABC for increased coverage required for either Friday nights or sunday games. A little bit of cash for comments to our old friends at 5AA, problem solved.

The SANFl is 125 years old, The AFL is 18. We could easily survive without them I mean we did it for 100 years previously.

If the fact that the SANFL has survived and grows in the face of the AFL to this day isnt proof enough. I dont know what is.

Infact Ill bet anyone the SANFL without any involvement in the AFL would survive twice as long as the AFL without any SA teams being involved in their comp.

Do you have any idea what revenue from the AAMI Stadium's 22 AFL games generates for footy in this state? No AFL teams in SA = death of SANFL (in its current form).

You think the 10,000 people that go to the SANFL each week and the lucrative TV rights deal with the ABC would sustain it longer than the AFL?

How much are you willing to bet? :D

It's a crying shame the government didn't allow the licenced clubs to have pokies 15 years sooner, it'd be a completely different story.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

What a surprise Hendo defends the AwFuL. I certainly didnt see that coming. All really good points you make accept for the statement about the SANFL's death (in its current form) Hendo.

If I could get you to maybe read the title of the thread which reads "SANFL super league". Clearly Indicating not the SANFL in its current form.

Apart from that though, absolutley useless points you make.

Approx 10000 fans to see 4 SANFL games (salary cap $350K per club usually 8 teams competing) $2.8 mill worth of footballers wages/assets on the field.

Compared to an average of 30000 crowds for the AwFuL per week in SA. (20000 Port and 40000 crows). With a total of over $16 mill worth of footballers wages/assets on field.

SA AFL crowds have decreased consistently over the last 4 years whilst the SANFL crowds have increased.

Any chance you could let the PAFC know how much of a cash cow the AwFuL really is. Any chance you could explain to me how these lowly SANFL clubs like your beloved North and Centrals have made more profit than Port Power over the last 5-6 years.

THose SANFL clubs that had to build their own clubrooms in this time (NAFC has got 2). We simply just didnt kick somebody else out and claim theirs like PAFC did.

Sure your not over rating the AFL again Gollum. I mean hendo. Surely you still dont subscribe to the theory you are a SANFL supporter.

SANFL super league must be scaring somebody. The AwFuL did everything possible to stop tassie and Nt joining the SANFL.

I would love to see the AFL go down, especially the local teams here in Victoria playing to a 1500-2000 a round ! But " we're dreaming ". I'd love to see someone with a lot of $$$$ put their funds into the SANFL and WAFL comps. Plenty of media attention and hype and the sheep would come home !

So each AFl team in SA makes $25m+ in revenue. And thats your total argument as to how the SANFL would die.

Port must have alot of expenses then Hondo. Profit = revenue - expenses and they cant make a profit. Infact the "precious" crows are even forecasting a loss next year.

SANFL would die if we had no AFL involvement. So the SANFL makes no money out of the SANFL at all ?? Any chance you could explain how footy still exists in the ACT/NT and Tassie without any AFL teams.

Sorry to be so passionate about the SANFL Hondo on a SANFL website. My bad.

My suggestion next time you see some straws. No need to clutch quite that hard.

Slink back to your AFL forum cave now Gollum. Well done protecting your "precious" once again. I assume you denegrating our great comp(SANFL) gives you some sourt of personal fulfilment. I just dont understand how.

Atleast you have proved one thing. The difference between an AFL fan who checks on SANFL results. Compared to a real fan of the SANFL.

Here ends the lesson.

No it's not my "total argument" about anything. I was just adding balance to the numbers you posted. I think you were saying something about players wages divided by crowd figures means the SANFL is financially stronger. It didn't really make any sense so I added the missing link in the equation. More to highlight that you weren't making sense than to make any argument.

UK Fan wrote:SANFL would die if we had no AFL involvement. So the SANFL makes no money out of the SANFL at all ?? Any chance you could explain how footy still exists in the ACT/NT and Tassie without any AFL teams.

The answer is that the standard of ACT & NT comps <<<< SANFL comp so that is where the SANFL would be headed without local AFL teams. The SANFL makes far less money out of the SANFL comp (if any) than it does from the AAMI Stadium revenue sharing. Take one or both of those revenue streams out of footy in this state and the SANFL comp will take some sort of hit. That's the reality and it's not denigrating the SANFL comp to say so. It is what it is.

UK Fan wrote:The difference between an AFL fan who checks on SANFL results. Compared to a real fan of the SANFL.

I go to more SANFL games than I do AFL games and I am a member of NAFC, not the AFC. I've told you that before. Many people of this site support both the SANFL and the AFL. Supporting and enjoying the AFL does not make you an enemy of the SANFL IMO. In your opinion, it does.

No it's not my "total argument" about anything. I was just balancing out your stats.

Stating AFL cubs revenue without addressing any of the above issues. Very well balanced arguments you provide. Just to clarify ACT/NT/Tas have survived without having an AFL clubs cos they are lesser leagues than the SANFL. What a ludicrous bit of logic, let go of those straws Hondo.

Could you point out where I said the SANFL would gain more revenue than it does currently wiht this set up Hondo ???.

Or is it simply i argued no way the SANFL would die. Which I believe now you can see is a completely false/melodramatic statement. Profits would reduce but that does not equate to the death of the SANFL or any company.

How much revenue would the AFL stand to loose by losing these 2 clubs with merchandising tickets sales and tv rights (would be tough to get an increased tv rights deal without 1 of the traditional footy states being involved) ???

More importantly Hondo how much do you want to bet ??????

Yawn

I said it would die "in it's current form". Not that it would die full stop.

You need to read my posts properly before you charge off on angry tangents. Sounds like we actually agree with each other.

Hmm, now that I have taken this thread a bit more seriously and read the comments I have formed the following conclusions:

A "new super League" is just not going to happen. Whether we like it or not the AFL is now and for the foreseeable future in a strong position and is essentially the aust football super league.

Since the emergence of the AFL it has left the remainder of the football world as third rate citizens. The AFL has grabbed all of the media $s worth having pushing everyone else back a rung. The commercial TV stations are no longer interested in SANFL, WAFL etc. Crowds have dropped in SA and WA and Tassie has suffered as well as far as I understand their situation.

On the other hand, the smaller states in terms of football particiapation (Qld, NSW, NT) have gone ahead.

What is lacking is a cohesive structure which links this footy 3rd world with the AFL.

I don't see anything changing at present due to the parochial views of the football administrators at State league level as well as AFL level. They mirror the views of the average footy follower. They will cling to their old club structure until change is forced on them al a Fitzroy, Sth Melb, woodville, and maybe PAM?

So you wanted to bet cos we we agree with each other I see.

Interesting change of tact from someone who edited his post about the AFL clubs giving profits back to the football community. Where SANFL clubs just work for themselves and take $400K of the SANFL every year. What a great SANFL fan you are.

Nope you havent changed your tune at all Hondo.
