BL are not world beaters and on a larger ground they will be exposed.
For mine CLG are the benchmark.

Sounds like sour grapes to me....

Payney has plenty of character, I belive he showed some of it off when he kicked them few goals in the last, dunno about the whole class thing though...

As for Waltz, not condoning what he did but age shouldn't be a factor, old enough to play, old enough to cop a smacking...

I would like to appologise for my opening post, It was a very stupid thing to say...
No-one, regardless of age should be getting 'Smacked' on the footy field...

I also wish to clarify there was no hit to the head or body – certainly pushing and shoving but nothing that caused any injury – Walts was just giving back what he had received in the 1st quarter – and he was dragged for it – as payney dragged himself for giving away a 25mtr penalty...

Now lets get back to the football....

Anyone who has the balls to defend this guy deserves the same. weak as piss
Well I guess I am as weak as piss for defending a good mate who did something incredibly stupid.

I would suggest if you saw the way he was in the change rooms you might understand that he would agree with nearly everything in your post.

The act he committed was indefensible, the person is not. He is a great guy who is extremely loyal to his friends and family.

carey wrote:you heard right mate the most dirty lowest act i'v ever seen could'nt believe if a team mate of mine did that i'd be flithy with him that was a joke umpires offered him 2games he took it as he should cause he deserved 8 to 10 games.
The club and his teammates are extremely disappointed. There have been internal sanctions put on Luke in addition to whatever he gets from the tribunal.

We are also steadfast in the belief that staying behind Luke as footballers and friends until he is able to return to the field will be the best option for club and player.

carey wrote:number 2 for mitchell park as well what a meat head fair dinkum have a go at some1 over 5foot would ya! weak as piss
This I will defend to the hilt. I suggest you might want to ask “number 2” how he ended up with cut across his eye (requiring 6 stitches) after being on the bottom of a pack? I did ask him and he told me that he got several punches to the head and what he did was simply reactionary.

Don’t go thinking all the Roo boys were saints and scholars out there. There were regrettable incidents from both teams.

carey wrote:what gets me about m/park is they have the basis for a good side they have a very good ruckmen 2 great forwards lead by bates a very hard in and under midfield yet as soon as they get behind out come the cheap shots and to all the little blokes aswell! they have a great coach who i have the upmost respect for he deserves better.
I think once we got a couple of key injuries/send offs it all went wrong and some stupid acts were committed.

I can say that this is not going to be normal for Mitchell Park this year. It is not going to be the way we go about our football. This was made evidently clear by the coach, senior players and the committee to everyone involved at the club.

The Real Number 3 wrote:Was sitting 5 metres away from the most biggest dog act i have ever seen in football. #1 from MP trying to send Hailesy's head into orbit with a kick resembling Ben Grahams punts in the NFL. Was an absolute disgrace. Should have the book thrown at him. But, without a doubt, he will most likely get 1-2 games.

Surely an attempted full force kick to the head is more serious than accidental contact to the throat. No doubt the tribunal will have a total different view of it because there was minimal contact and our bloke didnt get injured. Imagine if it did connect..... our bloke would have been in a real bad way.

Looking forward to finding out the tribunal verdicts this week.
Other than disagreeing with the hyperbole surrounding the force of the kick in your post, the rest I agree with.

Groover wrote:Hey how about we lay off the umpiring standards and umpires in general!
I do agree that at times it may seem an umpire is "out to make himself change the game" or whatever but this isnt the case, umpires are "volunteers" and dedicate much of their time per week to help the rest of us play a game we all love.
Also i agree that some decisions do seem bad (to players and supporters) but you have to remember that they do not have all the angles and can only work with the positions and views they get. I believe that any umpire in the history of the game has never made a wrong decision (debatable) as in their eyes the free kick or non free kick has been awarded with 100% of their confidence that it is the right decison.
These guys dont make up free kicks either, although we can sometimes feel that this is not the case, umpires are out to do an unbiased job and most times get the decisions right (in everyones eyes).
Only thing i cant defend umpires on and this may be the problem is work rate, i can understand that being a little older or heavier than most of the players does have an effect on the positions they can put themselves in to see each contest, but if only 60% of umpires are turning up to training for fitness then this needs to be adressed, yes alot of us do have work commitments
and such, but just plain not going to training does effect the whole of a team/individual. If these guys cant make it to contests then some (bad) decisions can be made.
To everyone that is complaining, this is a volunteer driven job and instead of standing on the sidelines whinging about the goings on, how about you try (and make a difference) and put your hand up to umpire, because from past experience i do know what its like to be on the other side and its not as easy as it seems.

Sorry but this is so stupid! Volunteer driven based job?? Yes B/C/D Grade they are volunteer based. As for A Grade games it is far from Volunteer. saafl supplied umpires where on $70 odd $$$ when i paid them a couple years ago so im sure its gone up in 2 years, so thats $35 per hour they get paid. I dont think any sensible employee would pay someone $35 hr that was un trained, unfit, half blind, or deaf! Im not saying this applies to all umpires but the ones i saw on the weekend should have been paying the clubs to put up with their disgraceful display of what they called umpiring! How can you call play from 30 - 40 metres away from the ball?? Most umpires ive seen in the last few seasons are so unfit and cause allot problems and fights on the field because of inconsistant decisions.
This weekend players were sent off, the umpire is suppose to run with that player to the boundary and inform the time keeper why he has been sent off and how long for, the weekends umpires where too lazy to be able to even do something as simple as a straight forward rule of umpiring!
IMO if you are getting paid the sort of money these umpires get paid per hour then they should meet basic requirments! Fitness, eye sight, hearing, basic yearly training! and seriuously an age limit should maybe be considered!
I know the saafl is short of umpires and i dont know what the solution is to fixing that problem but i think its disgracful on the saafl part that they send some of these umpires, players and clubs pay fees to the saafl and these umpires so they should be of some quality.
Im not saying this applies to all umpires, i think it would be a tough job and many are well deseving of the $$$ spent on them.

I hear what you say TGirl but I doubt the $70 or so is the prime motivator.

Best umpire outside of the top grades that I ever saw, was an ex-footballer with a pony tail in the 90's when we only had one umpire. He was a fitness fanatic and would do the Ds and then the Cs by himself. I remember a day when we played Goody Saints and got high 80s out of 100 from all 4 sides. I've never seen an umpire as good. Common sense, humour and would talk to the players. Even came into the GS bar for a beer after the main game.

Im not sure what team u r from jimmy but your profile says PAC so im going on that! I very much doubt being at PAC you see the quality of umpires i see at div 6 level and at div 7 cause otherwise you wouldnt say that $70 for 2 - 3 hours work isnt their motivation!
Im not saying all umpires are not worth the $$$ spent, there are many that do a great job it would not be any easy job.
I also understand people saying Shut up and put up with it, because yes if you question these poor skilled umpires then they do get very 1 sided seen it at many games, some in our favour some agaist. I just think its wrong and they are getting worse worse each year.
In regards to B/C/D grade umpires they are usually always someone good enough to put their hand up for the club to help them out, and yes most of the time these are ex players or dedicated club men and im sure they cop hell week in week out but my problem isnt towards these umpires its towards saafl sent ones that clubs pay good money for them so i just believe there should be some basic level of skill and fitness required.
At the end of the day it isnt going to get any better unless more people want to do the job and standing on a footy field copping abuse for 2 hours im sure isnt an attractive job hence the reason saafl have to pay the $$$ they do, so the shut up and deal with it is the only logic you can go with. I know im a girl, never played, never umpired and its much easier to umpire from the sidelines, i dont claim to know all the rules far from, but i do have an ex SAAFL & SANFL res umpire now coach as a husband and get ear bashed week after week lol  , trust me he is not fun to put up with when the umpires are bad! But having been a trainer it does shit me when i see players getting hurt and into biffs agaist each other because of frustration towards umpiring.

well there has been a lot of writing but here are my view on things...

playing both brahma lodge and clg, i would say clg might be slightly better. both play dif kinds of footy. clg have a lot more run and rebound out of defence better. BL have a few big players and play more contested footy. will be interesting to see how BL play on the bigger grounds.

umps were terrible and that prob resulted in players getting very frustrated. also have to question the goal that was called a point by the BL goal umpire in the last quarter. was at a crucial part of the game and from what i heard, even the BL players said it was a goal.

as for any defenders about to play BL, get ready to cop a few if you apply any pressure on them. when you have prob the fairest player from heccies refusing to shake hands with payney and walton, i think that sums up their character.

Agree with you there HB#3 to some extent. In our game against BL, their forwards fired a few cheap shots that's for sure - i know i copped a couple, but once the sting was gone from the game (after the first quarter  ) they settled down a bit.

I thought everyone was shaking hands with Payney and Walton from where i was sitting. Im not 100% sure how you can say that one of your players refusing to shake a couple of BL players hands is a reflection on their character and not the player in question? Payney had a bit of a day out and kicked a couple of late goals after copping greif from the crowd and ran past our supporters in celebration and simply let your supporters know about it in the process. Nothing rude and no swearing just pumping fists and a cheeky smirk. Ive seen it happen plenty of times in games and on TV and im sure it will happen again this week and the next and the one after.

I think Walton and Payney showed plenty of character in not trying to get back at Heccies players who targeted them during the game. Im not sure that your number 3 hitting Walton was all fair and square and which ever player lined up payney from 15 metres away and run through him after he marked the ball should probably not think to highly of his actions.
