Nick Schmidt also a 'in' for Tanunda. Will be a very handy player. Him and his cannons will do very well for Tanunda if he can avoid injuries.

Not too sure, at this stage there is supposed to be about 11 recruits but I'm not too sure on the local/import ratio, Prouse is keeping his recruiting very tight to his chest, especially on imports. From what I can gather Taylor would be their last import spot. Lets not forget that about 12 players have moved on so Prouse has to recruit a reasonable number to cover them. Looks as though the squad is coming along well though and will be more competitive than last year, reasonable numbers at training (approx 30) which is far higher than previous years.

Skip

Skip, anything further with this??
Names etc...

Freeling did have a good Senior Colts side from memory, how many of these young lads will move into the senior ranks this year... A promising sign for a club thats relied on imports of late....

LC I honestly don't know how many senior colts are coming up. Prouse is a cagey man & is not letting too much out to the general public. BLG Ump pretty well backed up the in's & out's, the pub talk is that they are still fighting hard to get Taylor but there is a new twist in that saga. Apparently the blockies have managed to move one of their imports into Tanunda which now opens up another import spot and they are fairly keen to fill that with Taylor. Would love to know the verdict on this one Swooper or any other Blockies on this forum.

LC, I think You'll find that only 3 or 4 of Freelings Colts side comes up this year. Its the year after that a big batch come up. The guys who come up , all had some A grade exposure last year.

Some good young colts coming thru the ranks for Freeling, doherty, barnes and ruediger the pick of the bunch.
Just a pity they will have to fight for spots. Half the state outside of the BLG has been moved into town.

A note to all, The Herald out on the 25/02 states,
"The round one match BL&GFA fixture between the Angaston Panthers and the Tanunda Magpies has been changed, and will now be played on Sunday April 19th" (Pete Argent, HERALD)

The issue is finally resolved and will definately make round 1 run smoothly!!!!!!!

Rum Runner,
always a healthy thing for someone to fight for their spot, the colts at Freeling will be good for the competition. No competition generally breeds lazy footballers

Drifter,
I agree that a healthy competition for spots is crucial, but it seems to be a continuing trend
at Freeling that they fill there import quota and then turn there backs on local talent.

Rum Runner, its a pretty broad statement you use there, and I agree there has been some truth to it in the past, but as for the here and now there are some things you need to take into account.
All of the lads mentioned previously from the Colts are pencilled in to play significant roles this year. Not to be left out.
Freeling is drawing from the smallest population pool in the comp for its depth, so obviously we are going to do our best to fill our quota, after all your not going to sign up paid players and not play them.
We are always looking at moving guys into the area with employment with the hope that it is a long term venture, just like other clubs, particularly in the Barossa. They are embraced as a local in the community. 2 lads have moved in recently, with possibly another couple on the way.
We actually have great faith in our young players, but recognise that they need some support. They need time to find their feet, and need a fighting chance in each game. All of the imports are what you would call in the youngish category. They are not old men, looking for one last fling, But potential long term players with something to prove. No world beaters, but all parts of the puzzle
Finally, there is a significant housing development going on in town, which ( in time ) will increase our depth. Couple this with steady improvement in the juniors, and in time we believe the future looks pretty bright.

I'd say Mc Millan would play as a small/ medium forward, taking maybe the 2nd but likely the 3rd defender. If he can average 1 or 2 a game, he would of done his job. All things going well, with both parties happy you would hope it would become long term. Its no walk up start though. as a few players are vieing for that similar role. So far he hasnt missed a training

McMillan has issues with discipline. With this and his inability to play well against good teams
he would be lucky to play all year in the ones.

yeah Rum Runner, sorry about the essay. Just thought we were being questioned on overlooking locals and needed to set the record straight. As far as Mc Millan goes, every player will be selected on form, not reputation, McMillan included. He gets his chance to put his best foot forward, balls in his court. You shouldnt need half hour to read this one.

My first post and pumped for the upcoming season. I have rubbed my crystal ball and envisage the league ladder to look as follows come September:
Tanunda
Angaston
Nuri
Centrals
South
Barossa
Kapunda
Willaston
Freeling

What are some other thoughts on this?
