Aussies chasing leather in SA

Postby rod_rooster » Sat Feb 21, 2009 12:46 am

Currently the South Africans Board Presidents XI are 4/303 (67.2).

That is a side going at 4.48rpo against a so called Test quality attack. Worrying signs for the upcoming Test series. Who is going to take a wicket.

Out of interest McGain has 1/84 (12.3). Getting smashed. Bag Hauritz all you like but at least he doesn't go for 6 or 7 an over.

5/393. Ouch!!!

McGain 2/126 from 19 overs, going at 6.63 an over. Kinda like Krejza's tour match performance all over again.

Siddle probably the pick of the bowlers. Hilf > Bollinger.

Can't wait 'till we bat and Hughes gets his first chance to shine!

Imagine what the South African side would do if a second or realistically third string side can do that to the bowling attack we have  I know it's only a warm up game but there are plenty of very worrying signs. Hopefully the batsmen can do a good job because to avoid embarrassment on this tour we will need them to.

Vaughn van Jaarsveld is probably the only one of note. Played in a couple of ODI's in Aus in the series just gone.

Oh and Imraan Khan. Seriously a guy by the name of Imraan Khan opened the batting and made a ton

Spot on Rod

Look at the experience of the bowlers on tour:

Johnson - (OK), 20+ tests?
Bollinger - 1 test
Siddle - 4 tests or so
Hilf - 0 tests
Hauritz - 4 tests or so
McGain - 0 tests

Got to be one of the least experienced bowling line-ups Australia has fielded for a long time. Add to that 2 batsman have yet to play a test and MacDonald has only played 1.

Ponting, Huss, Clarke, Katich & Johnson are the only ones who have been playing for Australia for longer than 1 year  Not a criticism as it's unavoidable, just the reality of where this side is at and why I think we'll need to be very patient this series.

Having said all that, Clarke reckons this pitch is a "road".

North (31*) v McDonald (23*). Imagine the tension out there, they might be partners but logic says they're wanting the other guy to fail.

Cmon North!

North almost certainly sured up that number 6 spot in the first test. after his 52 not out he has backed it up with 3 FOR 50 with the ball. HE COULD GET HIS FIRST 5 WICKET HAUL IN FIRST CLASS CRICKET PLAYING FOR THE NATIONAL SIDE. the aussie team could win, they trail by 202 and the South African Board President's XI only have 4 second innings wickets left. in the second sesh on the final. with a min of 53 overs remaining

it is the highest 3rd wicket partnership. but it is the 7th biggest partnership of all time. well behind the biggest partnership of all time. witch Mahela Jayawardene was also a part of.
it was 624 between Kumar Sangakkara (287) and Mahela Jayawardene (374)

South African Board President's XI lead by 213, with 3 second innings wickets left.
North has 4 for 58. but he is going at 6.3 an over. but with 4 wickets who cares and still 50 overs left
