Bushfire Appeal Match

Should there be one? There was one 1983, and that was also against New Zealand. I think that after this series, if CA is serious about the best interests of Australia for a change would schedule one.

I think they are using Tuesday's game here as some sort of appeal for the bushfires. I didn't quite catch everything they were saying in the commentary

I'd ask why here for? It's not a weekend match; and such a match at the MCG where it would be guaranteed 90,000 would help no-end. They were keen to schedule a match for the Tsunami Appeal, why not this?

Think they should, Reckon they should have the Australian side vs an All Star Ford Ranger Cup side. I know it is a ashort time before we head over to South Africa

'cause they don't share their water with SE Australia. :p

The fact that >49 lives are lost and communities have been burnt to the ground is why I am more concerned with this than the floods.

Even something like a celebrity match with a few of the retired stars such as Gilchrist, McGrath and co, maybe get a few footballers involved have Fevola and Lara Bingle batting together, that would keep Michael Clarke in line.

Best wishes to all the familes involved in this tragic fire, life can be very cruel but hopefully all australians will support you in everyway we can.

Yeah greedy bastards i guess. Some of it does trickle into the northern part of the state.

Don't the Aussies leave for South Africa the day after the T20 international against the Kiwis though?

I dunno actually, my thoughts here were banking on a couple of days before leaving for SA, I guess those that weren't chosen can still take part in a match. Perhaps someone like Noffke can get a game for a change.

Certainly something has to be done and where they would draw a decent crowd.

Honestly, how many people are going to turn up on Tuesday, even though from 5pm you can get in for half price

There should be one, Australia vs some sort of All Star team. Either that be the best Franger XI or Australia A, it does not matter.

MCG would be the best place.

You are in a country area in Victoria aren't you Psyber? I hope everything is alright for you and you are safe. This is a terrible tragedy made worse by the fact that some people are deliberately lighting and relighting fires. What sort of sick twisted people could do these things? Sickening.

I really wish the media would stop referring to these people as "firebugs". A real cutesy name for such a serious offence. These people are arsonists, and if I had my way I'd call them murderers.

Stay safe mate. Hopefully the weather does provide relief. It is terrifying just watching news reports at the moment let alone being as close to this as you are. Lets just hope the worst is over and no more lives are lost.

I'm fairly close to Mt Dandenong itself and it is a high risk area, so I was listening for the local sirens and had my scanner handy. The nearest big fire was the one that took out the beautiful little town of Marysville, which is about 45 minutes away by car. There were a couple of more local minor grass fires which were quickly extinguished.

When the change came the sudden wind really rocked the [about] 60 metre tall Mountain Ash trees in the back yard, and twigs cascaded over the house, so I watched them for a while then - occasionally one falls over on to someone's house when they've been dry for a while..
