If West and Glenelg merge then they'll have 12 premierships between them...they've got the same looking guernseys.
West could sell off Richmond Oval...must be worth a fortune as light industrial land...then spend some money down at the Bay...problem sloved.
Eight teams.

Maybe West can have the rest of the South Parklands, Victoria Park and Belair National Park instead....

C'mon R&B you know zones aren't based on geography they are based on population of a specific demographic so areas of low population are taken into account.

The SANFL metro zones have always been based on geography you goose. Just because one club has less 15 year olds is not reason to wreck another club. Fact is West have had far better juniors than Sturt for years anyway. Why does the SANFL have to interfere? The SANFL is going well. If West are not happy then they can spend some of that pokie money on developing their areas. West have the cattle - just need some stability and a decent coach. Sturt were in worse possie a few years back. West needs to stop whinging and the SANFL needs to **** right off and leave Sturt alone.

ET if it was based on geography all zones would be equal in size.

The fact is the size of the zones are determined by the number of 15 yo males in that at the previous census.

The SANFL then manipulate them to ensure all clubs home grounds are located in their zone but at the same time each club has roughly the same number of potential footballers in it (15 y o males)

This ensures clubs whose zones have more light industry, airports or public spaces are not disadvantaged compared to the clubs whose zones are more made up of residential areas.

This is why if you look at Glenelgs Metro zone in area/geography it is smaller than Sturts and West's becasue our zone is more residentially based. We have the same size (roughly) in kids but different geography

That is why I made the comment that zones are not based on geography/area they are based on demographics.

<edit> if you doubt me ring the SANFL and enquire about their methodolgy on determining the allocation of zones to each club.

You're both right, its based on geography and demographics.
If it was based solely on demographics North might have Noarlunga and South might have Elizabeth.
Therefore you're both geese. ;)

Why is it whinging to ask for a distinct disadvantage that we've endured for 15 years to be partially corrected? Sturt could not have been in a worse position in this regard because we've had the fewest kids for that entire period. Sturt (and West's) financial woes are nothing to do with this decision. It's about each club having an equal share of the potential playing stocks in the State.

But there are exactly the same number of teams in the Western Suburbs pre 1964 as there are now. ;)

Shot down - Council owns the oval - as Dutchie states we own the club rooms on land adjoining but separate to the oval.

Just leave things the way they were pre 1990.Someone at SANFL house screwed the local comp over, taking all those players.

If Glenelg merge with Westies the new guernseys would be
Black, Red & Yellow
Colours which could bring more indigenous players to the club!

Black Red and Gold, Snaggly. ;)

According to Pride Of The Bay, Glenelg first kitted out in those exact colours. No idea why the red was dropped.
