Three sides in the Mix sounds alright to me. No Blackwood either? are you sure about that? You call the wins i mentioned upsets. I think it is just a sign of an even comp. We can agree to disagree about that. Can you name another country league with 3, possibly 4 sides in the mix for a flag this year?

**** Blackwood don't think they will be much chop this year. See the sniper Silvi has left, don't need thugs like that in the Hills football league.

Whether it's a country league or the AFL - 4 teams ( Lofty, Hahn, Uris, B/Wood) - with no absolute certainty among them - vying for the flag indicates a very healthy comp.

What are peoples views on here about wearing skins, I think they are for the weak. What happened to the days of just footy shorts and a singlet.

Weak?? Check out any picture of Benny Cousins i don't think he leaves home without them and another weak bloke by the name of Luke Hodge is often spotted in a pair.
They are great for people with Hamstring issues and i tell you without them in pre season there would be some very serious cases of chaif ;)

Ballhog some of the shit that comes out of your mouth is so far fetched. Skins are for weak ppl  like already mentioned some of the toughest in the AFL wear em and some of the toughest in the HFL too... And to be predicting a top three domination before a ball is bounced and before any team can legitimately be assessed is simply stupid. For mine Lofty would have to lose alot to not win the flag again but beyond that it's all just guess work at this stage...

Apparently the forum isnt such a bad place for recruiting just ask the new marion coach and the bloke affiliated with Victoria...

To even up the competitions, when will President Owen and his band of merry men either:

(1) reduce the points (which replaced the salary cap) to a realistic level from the presently absurdly high level

and/or

(2) divide the teams into 3 divisions with an automatic promotion/relegation system?

Have to disagree with you here cbtf.

(1) I dont believe that the points system needs any tampering with; realistically the more successful clubs are able to recruit better players because their commitee's work harder than those whose teams are at the bottom of the ladder. Added to this, quality players will attract more people to come and watch good quality hills A grade matches. And the more people a club gets to a game the more cash they will make on the gate, at the canteen and at the bar. Money that goes back into the community and upgrades community facilities. The competition and locals dont lose out on game either, it results in a stronger B grade comp and the option to grow the C grade and give extra people a game of footy.

(2) 3 divisions is unneccesary, it is ideal to play against each club twice per year, once at home, once away. Also not too sure that Kersbrook, Kangy or TV would have any more luck against the top Div 1 teams than Bridgey do at the moment. You would probably just have the same clubs switching up and down, year in, year out which i doubt would be ideal for the comp or those clubs.

Mate just a bit of fun chill out tiger. As for the predictions we will see at the end of season but it's not rocket science to see who will be in the top few.

Totally agree with you special one. If go back and read BALLHOG's posts you could stack the crap that spews from his keyboard about as high as the empire state building! Skins these days are nearly a necessity for reducing lactic acid build up and therefore reduces recovery time. Everyone should be wearing them. Then again The hog probably doesn't approach his football in a professional manner....... ;)

in reply to a few questions, Loby have got Aufderheide and a couple of other recruits who should be solid contributors without being outstanding. Certainly need much more to be competitive. 1-4 wins would be the target for the year I would think unless they can grab a few guns before round 1. King I'm not sure on as yet. Jenkins may want to be coached by his old man, but if he went to Birdwood instead of Loby, his mother would wipe him so he may need to make a call there. No truth in rumour of Fuller going to TTG. He will be at Norwood. No truth in rumour of Loby being loaded with cash either. Should have a bit from not spending a cent last year but no bucket of gold.

Your point 1 shows a lack of understanding on how most football clubs operate. To say that "successful clubs are able to recruit better players because their committees work harder" is a joke. Over the past 20 years I've been involved with a number of sporting clubs - some very successful, others less so - and let me assure you that the "successful" clubs don't always have harding working committee's.

In the HFL, the difference between being successful and unsuccessful is down to one major issue - access to money. In most cases the money is from a benovelent President, sponsor or similar (or through their business contacts). My observations are that the committees of the "less successful clubs" have to work much, much harder to put their teams on the field each week.

Re: Hills Football League
Smart is heading overseas early in the year and wont be playing at Onkas next season.

think you will find Barkers will slip down the ladder a bit more than expected, had a look at their training on tuesday night and by the looks of things only about 5 walk up starters in the A's were training. rest of them were B graders.
more on mt barkers trouble - the Mcdonald rumor is gaining momentum, apparently the clearance is nearly in the post to another hills club - supposedly being finalized early next week...

I think you will find that mcdonald is to become a mountain devil, was spotted at training tonight with the rest of the goats and fiitted in well with their running programme
ohh i dunno
