Wow, handy outright for WYC. Bastards ;) Seriously though, well played.

It was a funny day of cricket yesterday. We went in with 2 things in mind on how it might play out. Either get early wickets and try and bowl them out cheaply (always doubly difficult in the 2nd dig) or be happy for them to make runs and hope/expect them to give us a realistic chance at getting the outright, as that'd also be their best chance of getting some points.

Well, we're having a bad patch in the field at the moment and put down some chances and they batted well, so plan A was gone. Plan B didn't really go as we thought either. They just kept batting and batting and batting. Finally, about 4 or 5 overs after tea, they declared @ 7/196 leaving 35 overs (including the extra 5). Way too many runs to get no matter how many overs were left the way we've been batting, only 35 overs to get the runs as well *and* too few overs to get us out.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but a declaration 10 overs earlier with 150 on the board would have made it a lot more likely for us to continue to push for it. At 190-odd to get, as soon as we lost a few quick ones, we shut up shop and were given plenty of grief by the fielders for it. What's the point? We were never going to get them. If it was a smaller total, we'd likely have pushed on and possibly lose more wickets. As everyone knows, its a lot easier getting wickets when guys are playing shots.

So a wasted opportunity by both teams really.

Yep it was a very handy outright for us. We had gone into the game hoping for a win after Westminster had just beaten the Sharks and to come out with an outright was awesome by our boys. 190 of 35 overs i know we would have had a go at that but if you lose early wickets then you certainly shut up shop as it appears you guys did so a pretty pointless time after tea in your game.

I hear Pope and O'Malley put on 70 odd for the last wicket to get glenelg over the line against Sheidow with Pope hitting a 6 off the last ball of the day to win sounds like a pretty amazing win and a disappointing day for Sheidow.

That would have to go down as one of the best finishes of all time if that's accurate. Incredible chase - well played ANA.

Pope bats at 8? O'Malley at 11? Bloody handy cricketers that late in the order!

Yep Pope always makes runs against us and O'Malley is no mug with the bat either. It would have been great to see that final overs of that game.

Roseboy still a good win that gives u a big jump from 4th spot and guarantees the final 4 nearly!
u spoke about ur bad patch in the field? your 20/20 today (which i was hopin u would win as i hate ICC) was that aswell, IMO ur fielding prob cost ur mob the game, but that big fella at the end, very entertaining it was!!!

With your chase for the outright roseboy why wouldn u keep pushin for it? u lost 7 wickets i think for not many runs so ur quotient was not really helped by it, but more importantly if u ended up losing outright u were still to walk away with 6 points as u cant lose the points! IMO i woulda expected your mob to chase any total knowing it could be the difference between top and third... but still a good win and 6 points is better then 1 for a loss isnt it JB or TTJ??? ;)

i can hear from my house Jibba eating his own words talkin about the outright! O'Malley and Pope tho prob best tenth wicket partnership (dont know why they bat that low) for a long time in our comp (very similar to bloods against westminster last year). I hear that they needed 18 off the last over bowled by Jibba and a six to win off the last ball and popey got it over the line!
Sheidow boys would be sick of 10th wicket partnerships after turf 21s doing it twice in two years with 50+ partnerships to win...

All in all, last 4 games are set to be very interesting as there are a lot of outrights in the last couple rounds as shown by last year!

A very dissapointing loss for us yesterday. The lowest moment of my cricketing life. Having ANA 5/46 and then 9/202 chasing 288 we should never have lost the match from there. However they batted well and were able to keep the run rate within reach until the last over. It was pretty much my fault we lost the game asking Jibba to bowl his 21st over for the last of the match (having bowled 15 straight in his first spell) They needed 18 to win at the start of the over and then getting an edge past fordy and then 4 leg byes four were needed from the last ball (which was hit over the fence) Hopefully we can all take something from the game and be ready to take on the ramblers this week. Cookie and Jib both bowled really well throughout the day with Cookie taking 5 and Jib 3.

I've had a few drinks tonight, so apologies to all...

Yeah we're shit in teh field ATM, can't hold catches we should. Ground fielding is slopp as well. But yeah, big Dim can bat. That six over the car park was enormous. When you're 6'7 and swing a bat like he does, they stay hit. A big shame we lost, everyone knows we were taking it seriously ,but well done to ICC. Should be a cracker final between WYC and ICC.

As for wh we didn't keep pushing yesterday? The total was rediculous. It was retarded, stupid, sooo over the top. 190 to get? in 35 oers? comeon, which bright spark thought that was a good total... As we saw it, we were going to give it a red hot go, we lost 3 or 4 quick ones pushing for it and it failed on us, so we stopped. As I said aerlier, if it was only 140 to get, we probably would have kept pushing. 190 is huuuuuge. There was no way we were going to roll over and give them the outright. Screw that. They cost themselves the points through poor planning. Serves them right IMO. Yes we had nothing to lose points wise, but we'r enot just going to give the other team points either.

I feel almost AF-like posting what I think... quite rewarding ;)

I think Sth Rd would have been reluctant to set you 140 Roseboy after we chased down 155 in 19 overs against them earlier in the season so i can see why they were a little hesitant and went on the safe side.

Fair point. However, you have to be in it to win it. With that target, they were never really in it and didn't leave themselves enough overs to get us out.

My semi-drunken point from last night is still fair IMO.

Fair points bloods.. maybe they thought it was going to happen again! really 190 to chase off 35 overs is not even 6 an over, but obviously losing 3 or 4 early wickets definitely makes it a hard chase! altho u were 5/45 or so and posted 145 off 20 overs against ICC in the 20/20. Woulda been interesting too see that big fella against south road chasing the outright..
And ur drunk post was rather good Roseboy, it all made sense which is far better then wat my sober ones are like apparently ;)
with ur fielding in the 20/20 i would think that u missed bucky and dingles run out chances around 7 times, with over throws happening a couple times. watching ur game made it even more evident just how important fielding is, especially in a 20 over game. very happy i didn play sunday because it was hot watching, dont knowabout on the field but definitely hot under the grandstand!
