Wow, handy outright for WYC. Bastards

It was a funny day of cricket yesterday. We went in with 2 things in mind on how it might play out. Either get early wickets and try and bowl them out cheaply (always doubly difficult in the 2nd dig) or be happy for them to make runs and hope/expect them to give us a realistic chance at getting the outright, as that'd also be their best chance of getting some points.
Well, we're having a bad patch in the field at the moment and put down some chances and they batted well, so plan A was gone. Plan B didn't really go as we thought either. They just kept batting and batting and batting. Finally, about 4 or 5 overs after tea, they declared @ 7/196 leaving 35 overs (including the extra 5). Way too many runs to get no matter how many overs were left the way we've been batting, only 35 overs to get the runs as well *and* too few overs to get us out.
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but a declaration 10 overs earlier with 150 on the board would have made it a lot more likely for us to continue to push for it. At 190-odd to get, as soon as we lost a few quick ones, we shut up shop and were given plenty of grief by the fielders for it. What's the point? We were never going to get them. If it was a smaller total, we'd likely have pushed on and possibly lose more wickets. As everyone knows, its a lot easier getting wickets when guys are playing shots.
So a wasted opportunity by both teams really.
