The good thing about the MCG is that the pitch is going to break up after the 3rd day, it did not do that in Perth. Given that I reckon anything over 400 is very good, 500 is just about curtains in terms of a result for the feilding first team in terms of a positive result. We are in a touch of trouble now. Think 400 will be a good result now.

Fair catch too just quietly, they certainly are bringing their A game. Ordinary shot mind you....

Bad luck to Hayden, not much to say about him, everyone knows what to expect and what should happen.

Symonds, once again throws away a good start, we would be better off with Watson, atleast if he got a start, he would go on with it.

Overall, we are doing OK, if we get 400, that will be a great score.

5/227, is not doing OK, once again players get a start and throw it away, thats what cost us the 1st test if you look at it overall.

As much as I dont like Watson have to agree with you HOF, thats 3 out of 3 innings Symionds had the attack at his mercy and has thrown it away, we need at least 400 or this could well be over in 4 days unless Lee hits form and Mitchell continues on with his, cause after those 2 it's very very thin

Could Siddle finally show us a glimpse of what the selectors seem to see? Also by the sounds of things I called it. Simmo throws another opportunity away.

Actually, that was pretty harsh of me, dishing it all out to Symonds.

Katich, Symonds and Ponting, all got starts and could have made centuries, well in Ponting's case, a BIG century and thats what we really needed.

Clarke HAS to make a century if we have any hope and Haddin needs to support Clarke and make a few runs himself.

These two lads are in decent form so they need to put together a big partnership here.

Very disappointed with Symonds' dismissal. He was looking alright but then throws his wicket away.

agreed re Clarke he has 20 off of nearly 100 balls, not his usual self, Ponting should have gone on but was playing for Tea which cost him big time, was still a great knock though IMHO, Katich got a half decent ball, I wont touch on Symonds dismissal as I havent seen it

Whats wrong with just selecting a specialist No. 6 Test Standard batsman?

Symonds, Watson etc just ARNT test standard batsmen.

The Aussie selectors seem to be having difficulty in differentiating their 1 day form with Test match ability.

Only 63000 at the MCG today, like to know if that is close to the smallest Boxing Day crowd in the last 10 or so years

Anyone is mind Jackpot, cant say I disagree with you, go bacvk to the 70's and Doug Walters was a specialist number 6 and didnt do a half bad job, then come on had a trundle for an over and had 1/0

That is true, i was thinking all-rounders and your right. Watson would PROBABLY be better than Symonds but both of them are not Test standard.

We need something different and new and a specialist number 6 batsmen could be the key.

It is strange to see Clarke scoring this slowly but at least he is staying in. He MUST make a big score now though... no use hanging around if you get out for 30ish.
