I played against Geg Anderson in school football just before he swapped schools so he could play for Port Adelaide. He was already a "minor" celebrity as the Swans had already drafted him by the time we played against him.
I think I should be given some credit for making him look good that dayHe was having a reasonable "day out" in the first half of that game - he had about 20 kicks and 10 marks before halftime when my coach decided we should tag him subsequently I was moved onto him despite desperate pleas to keep me in the comfort of the fwd pocket.
At the end of the game one of the more statistical minded parents blurted out that Anderson had about 40 kicks and 20 marks in the second half - all of which were on me! All I saw of him was his "flaying boots" as he flew over me taking mark after mark and the number on his back as he tore away from me and bombed one long kick after another into the St. Mick's fwd line. I think from memory he kicked about 8 himself that day!
Needless to say any of the AFL scouts who were allegedly there that day saw him get plenty of football and a fair percentage down to me!!!

Gibbs gets drafted and plays for an AFL team in 2007.
Yeah lets all use the Glenelg Football Club the ones who
have made this kid a footballer not some 2 bob high school coach.
I barrack for Norwood and would love to see Gibbs play this week
I saw him last week kill the Magpies what a talent.
I sure as hell will not go and see him play school football.
And besides has anyone asked for Pagans permission ?

To make a claim that Glenelg have made Bryce Gibbs a player is a bit over the top. They may have added in some way to where he is now but he is the sum of a lot of parts the first being natural talent and I wouldn't discount Plympton Football Club, Brighton High and most of all his old man.
Lets not forget the kid is 17 and would probably love to have a game with his mates probably for the last time ever, wouldn't it be good if they could actually take a little pressure of him for a while.
I think you overestimate how much coaching and feedback most kids get from their clubs. Did Glenelg make Phil Raymond (drafted by St Kilda) in the ten games he played in their under 19's. I severely doubt it.

This came up on 5AA. Apparently Gibbs & co. were very upset not being allowed to play for the school. But it was also stated that Brighton HS no longer even has a football team that plays weekly (unbelievable!) and that the Wednesday match was not really as 'crucial' as Gonzo suggests.

so I am guessing that Brighton had already played games without these 3 playing. Admittedly, the guys are in Yr 12 and won't be at the school next year, but, the school obviously don't think that footy is important enough to warrent a regular team that plays schoolboy comp footy. This year, in Div1 they were still alive

It would not be responsible for the Senior Coach to allow them to play in a 1-off match.

I feel for the guys, but what would the reaction be if an injury did occur? Yes, it's just a schoolboy comp playing against other kids - but as a St. Micks kid, would you like to go down in history as the guy who broke James Sellars leg, not allowing him to get drafted because you didn't really know what you were doing? Who's to say that any of the players know what they are doing, after all - it's just a once off.

This was the mid 60's admittedly but Peter Anderson went to Adelaide Boys High and was stripped off his prefect status when he chose to play for North Adelaide over the school team.
I use to go to school with Steven Trigg and he played league football with Central before the "school football season" started. When the school games started he played for the school - no arguements, no dramas.
