Partly because he doesn't need the added pressure and also because he is quite vulnerable early on. Hussey is more likely to bat there over clarke.

Australia has one of the finest batsmen to ever play the game batting at 3. Ponting will finish his career with more runs in Test cricket than anyone else. How quickly people forget and how unfortunate it is that people don't appreciate what they have until it's gone.
