There's that name Dawe again.
Would it be right that the team of the carnival would basically be the SA country team, if SA was actually sending a team of course?

Correct ORD. The side selected from team of the carnival is the SA Country side as they are issued with a medal and a state guernsey.

Its pathetic how SA have chosen not to send a side over to the Australian championships because they were put in div 2. Some of the players who put there hand up and have not played any footy in town I am sure would love to represent their state.

Leigh Whickers response was that they were disappointed that our side had been put into the Div 2 side of the carnival, so they pulled the pin. What do they expect when they dont send a side in 2002 to perth for the Championships for financial reasons, just to waltz back into div1?? Not good enough if you ask me, kick in the guts to all those that put their hand up for representative footy.
SA will be the only state not going. Even the Kiwi's are sending their best side!!!!!!!

Cheers for that Indian. I did actually hear the interview and I thought how uncanny it was that it was mentioned only about half an hour after I made my original post about it!
Agree with what you said but it's pretty ordinary in my book that funding can't be found somewhere to send these blokes to these championships. Is probably the highest honour that some of these guys will ever get, is an extremely high standard of football and for them to have to pay their own way is pretty ordinary IMO - Very Bloody Ordinary!!!!

Just thought I'd regurgitate this post for you Chook, in case you didn't see it.

Not sending a team is a joke. And it will just go on as is. The longer SA put it off, the more the players suffer, some missing out because they'll retire etc. You'd just think they'd nip it in the bud swallow their pride, kill div 2 then be back in div 1 next time. This will reflect even worse on footy over here.

Finding it pretty tough to find results bout the carnival. Seems the less the SANFL talk about the carnival, the less they will have to keep dishing out piss weak excuses as to why there not going to the Aussie Champs.
Interesting the 3 hills boys that made they team of the carnival are absolute mudlarks. They plough through the heavy stuff and all were apparent worthy inclusions.
Dissappointing for the lads that they wont be packing their bags and heading for the Gold Coast, what a trip that would be to represent your state.
Other players from Southern Districts that made team of carnival. Josh Vick - Cove, Mitch Portlock & Wes Glass- Willunga, James Pedlar- Mypo

Thanks for that ORD.
I think everyone agrees that SA not sending a team is a joke and is an embarrasment to SA football in general.

Indian
The weather would def have suited the southern and hills boys being that it rained all weekend. Its a pitty that those boys selected in the side won't get the chance to head up to the Gold coast.

I doubt there would be much chance of rain for the hills boys up there!

Although, with just a couple of exceptions, I reckon this winter's games haven't been too wet.
So what is it now? About 5 games left in Central? 4 in country?
Anyone got the draw?

Interesting to see Lofty lad Sam Miles BOG for Sturt reserves on Sunday, in only his second reserves game

I agree Indian, they don't even post results in Sunday Mail for 'the epitome of country football elite' and then SANFL finally raises some interest late on Monday, putting scores on their web site. If it was such a big deal, why not put some sort of promotion on their web site in the lead up to the event. Then not even a mention in Monday's Tiser. Seems a real 'what ever' attitude ... real good attitude towards grass roots football. Probably reckon it's more important to report on some Crow breaking a finger nail at training! Interesting to see Chad Dawe get another selection in Country team, maybe scouts may believe he is worth another crack at SANFL level, possibly at a different club. Trzesinski and Gordon both very good players, and have been in solid form for Mt Lofty. Mark Habner, who played at Nairne last year, also made the carnival team, playing back in his home region of Eyre Peninsula. Disappointing that Country all star team won't get to represent their State on national stage, but believe they will be playing next year as a group against the Amatuers and also the Victorian Country league ... at least they do get to actually don the guernsey in battle. Dutchy, also a far contingent of other ex Hills juniors making their mark in Sturt Reserves ... John McDonald (a real goer), Matthew Jaensch, Nick Smith, Craig Evans, all doing well, while Nick Wark, ex Blackwood colt, appeared more mature than his 16 years, to turn in a noteworthy effort in defence, in his league debut against West Adelaide. JQ - 6 rounds left in Central, 5 in the Country: could be down to the wire in both divisions for the fifth spot. Central: Hahndorf, Lobethal and maybe Blackwood, Country: Echunga, Birdwood, and again, maybe Blackwood.

I'm sticking by my early season prediction that Blackwood will slip in. See if Hahndorf can arrest their slide after 2 weeks off (I think they had the bye).
I reckon now would be the latest we could do our top 5 predictions before finals.
I think final 5 order will still be (I think the same as my early post, can't find it though)
1. Lofty
2. Uraidla
3. Mt Barker
4. Onkas
5. Blackwood

Country:
1. TV
2. Kangarilla
3. Meadows
4. ????? - who's there at the moment??
5. Echunga

Big milestone this week for Lofty's Leith Dawes. the big 250 in surely his last season.
Is it fate that he'll do it against Bridgewater?
A great effort considering the ups and downs he endured along the way! Might end on a real high this year.

The only interest in the Central Divison final spots for me is for 5th place, will it be Hahndorf, Lobethal or Blackwood.
I have Lobethal pencilled in for two more wins which will give them 12 points, but note this week against Ironbank is no certainty. Hahndorf as well are certain for two more wins but the big game for both Hahndorf and Blackwood will be when they clash in Rd 14 and as it is being played at Blackwood they will probably start favourites. Blackwood will be hoping that Ironbank do them a favour and also beat them in Rd 15 but I have my doubts about that. Two more wins to Hahndorf will have them on 14 points. By my calculations Blackwood can afford to drop two games as three more wins will have them on 14 points. Neither of these sides in contention have a massive percentage count over each other but it may well come down to the last minute of the last quarter of the season. Of course either of these teams could surprise us all and beat a team above them on the ladder which would throw this theory of mine out the window.

I still reckon that on their day hahndorf have the better quality of players running around. ALot will depend on how well their onball brigade go. I think they will be better than blackwood in the centre and give their forwards more of a chance. Lobethal have a better on ball brigade than blackwood but do they have the legs to keep running??

Apparently The Big O, aka the Hills president was in rare form up at the berri carnival last weekend. He was given the duty of covering the weekends action by The Courier Newspaper and could only pull himself away from the bar for a couple of hours, Hence the small report in this weeks paper. My spies spotted him Grinning like a cheshire cat, swaying to the beat, at The Vines Nightclub on the Sat Night. What a ledgend. Flying the flag for Hills Footy

PigSkin

Agree with your selections, not too many hard games to choose from this week.
Uraidla to smash Blackwood by over ten goal
Lobethal to beat Ironbank with not too much trouble by about 8 goal
Lofty to kill Bridgey, although bridgey will have a dip, by 7 goal
Onkas to beat Hahndorf by 6 goal
