Club Culture: Strong drinking culture as there is at most senior footy clubs, parents are very much involved with the junior sides and young guys tend to hang around after juniors and play senior footy, which is what we survive on. (11 footy trip virgins this year, 17 two years ago).

--

Drinking culture is a double edged sword; Great for sponsorship and team atmosphere, bad if it gets out of hand and (kids) parents often disapprove
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

True, but once the boys are out of under 18s they're adults.

I've heard differnent. I cant belive that Ricky O'Loughlin would be playing for nothing

I can. Is good mates with Hocking, was not having his best year as far as getting on field and just wanted to play football.

Salisbury do give incentives though.

Scotch did pay their best 10 a couple of years ago quite well. I assume it is the same now.

SMOSH pay and I reckon SHOCs do too.

Salisbury don't pay but give incentives! Is that not the same thing??

Loxton indicated they don't pay players, as Loxton North indicated also.

Incentives can hardly be seen as player payments, unless the same guy gets it every week.

Player payment is an incentive too, if you look at it like that.

I mean, unless you're on a weekly or seasonal salary from the club, it can't be seen as player payment. Rewarding a good effort is well different, cash or not.

I'll have to agree to disagree, but I do believe any payments/incentives should be performance based! I still believe if you play football and you receive cash for playing football then that is a player payment! ](*,)

What about the 10 year old kid who gets 10 bucks from his coach for a good performance?

That can not be seen as player payment.

Incentives, such as a bit of cash for best player awards, are a lot different to a player being paid per game regardless of performance. The former is incomparable to the latter as a recruiting tool.

Think of it this way:

Your mate gets you over to help him fix something. He drops off a six pack on the way past one day to say thanks. It's not payment, just recognition for the favour.

Paying players usually means entering into a type of contract to play. for example Player A receives X amount for each game played. Or gets X amount per goal scored.

Scotch who pay their best $300 down to 10th best at $100 have to be seen as paying players, yet their payment is purely incentive.

That's how I look at it as well mate. Hard to get blokes to the club by saying 'you get $60 if you're BOG'. Scotch may be a bit different if you're on the money Shrek, obviously they're extreme incen tives, but probably a better method than giving the same guy $300 a week regardless of how well/badly he plays.

Our A Grade is $60 cash for BOG, bar vouchers for 2nd-5th or 6th on a sliding scale. B Grade best gets $30 bar voucher.

Perhaps we should stop 'paying' our Under 7s with a packet of chips and can of drink once a month...

Many years ago a club use to pay players a certain amount each game, the next year they pooled all the money they use to pay to every player and just gave it to the best players on the day. Still a player payment just another way to do it!!!

Not necessarily! If the player rates himself they would be thinking they would be in the best week in week out. Therefore certain of getting paid!

If a player rates himself, he wouldn't come to a club because of the chance he could get fifty bucks if he got BOG. Not when he could go somewhere else and be guaranteed $50-100 just for turning up to the game.
