I must say the Willunga Oval (although it has a 45 degree slope) was in great nick and the umpiring was great. The 2 umpires, Cratey was one, really communicate with the kids which makes it a hell of a lot easier.
Speaking of ovals, I hear a whisper that some league officials were asking about the Goolwa Oval's availabilty on Saturday the 22nd of September. Interesting....... I know all the farmers at Compass love the rain, but they need it to stop for their ovals sake!
LF, your boys were very good on the weekend and your right they are a very little side. What they do have in their favour is a very good coach. Bridges, although not an awesome player himself he knows how to communicate with his lads and i really commend him for the job he is doing. What i also like about him is, that he is not like most of the other Saints coaches who rant and rave and swear and curse and tell their players to go out and fight the opposition. Bridges keeps his cool and gets his boys playing good football.
I went to the games on Sunday and there were some fine coaches on display and also some very average coaches. I went and listened to Bassani's 1/4 time address and i was very un-impressed, a lot of people on this site rate him as a coach and his results look quite good but listening to him talk did not impress me one bit.
Lf does do a great job with those boys (and 1 girl) and is able to communicate very well with them, they all respect him and listen to every instruction given.
What Saints coaches have you heard instructing players to fight opposition?
