LuvsFooty wrote:Thanks A Mum. I cant believe the boys (and 1 girl) keep getting up, we must be the smallest junior colts team in history! This week will be very tough. I must say the Willunga Oval (although it has a 45 degree slope) was in great nick and the umpiring was great. The 2 umpires, Cratey was one, really communicate with the kids which makes it a hell of a lot easier.

Speaking of ovals, I hear a whisper that some league officials were asking about the Goolwa Oval's availabilty on Saturday the 22nd of September. Interesting....... I know all the farmers at Compass love the rain, but they need it to stop for their ovals sake!

LF, your boys were very good on the weekend and your right they are a very little side. What they do have in their favour is a very good coach. Bridges, although not an awesome player himself he knows how to communicate with his lads and i really commend him for the job he is doing. What i also like about him is, that he is not like most of the other Saints coaches who rant and rave and swear and curse and tell their players to go out and fight the opposition. Bridges keeps his cool and gets his boys playing good football.

I went to the games on Sunday and there were some fine coaches on display and also some very average coaches. I went and listened to Bassani's 1/4 time address and i was very un-impressed, a lot of people on this site rate him as a coach and his results look quite good but listening to him talk did not impress me one bit.

Lf does do a great job with those boys (and 1 girl) and is able to communicate very well with them, they all respect him and listen to every instruction given.
What Saints coaches have you heard instructing players to fight opposition?

I also listened to his speach at quarter time, and was thinking the same thing.
His players didn't seem interested in what he was trying to say, I saw several players were walking around and chatting to spectators and mates while Bassani was trying to address his players.

it seems as though half my family is on here giving me some positive feedback. thanks family!!!! Looking forward to the medal count tonight. I would suggest that balas will be a clear winner in the juniors but one to watch for The Saints in Satish Lawson. Indian kid who is only fresh to footy but he is a real goer and stands out. Has been invited and should poll well.

Teamwork or LF,

A few years ago you had a very good young player in the name of Kenny (and I'm not sure of his last name) but he was a big stand out in his age group .... is he still playing at Saints, did he end up at souths... or where's he at now ??

Was a very good player at that age am just wondering if he continued on with it or not.

Mark is good to have on board. we are both completely different as players which gives 2 different aspects on footy. Kenny would be Kenn Campbell who is on of the most naturally talented athletes and ball winners I have seen. He struggles with kicking and needs to committ to one thing or another. He spends time at south, injured, saints senior colts and saints A grade. has been invited to the count tonight, will poll well but hasn't played enough footy to win

Yes, that's right Kenn Campbell.

His grandmother and I used to cross paths all the time and she'd tell me about him but I hadn't heard of him for a while..... so thanks for the reply LF... it's good he's stuck with it.

He is the hardest kid ever to coach Mum, as LF said he is the most gifted player going around but lacks commitment south have tried very hard and even AFL clubs have showed great interest in him but he is not keen on it at all. He missed the last 5 of our snr colts games and no doubt makes a huge difference when he plays. Hopefully over summer he gets it all sorted out as he still has another year left in the colts.

Yeah it'd be a shame if he let it slide.... could just be 'that age group' thing.....I am trying to remember but I think his grandmother said that he started playing football late... that he originally was doing athletics and he didn't actually realise himself just how 'fast' he was.... hopefully it just one day it just 'clicks' for him. I haven't seen him play for a few years but I remember that he was great to watch a couple of years ago.

If he develops his game in the skills department he will be awsome, he has pace that is unmatched and not a bad size he will end up somewear around the 6ft mark.

Getting back to ovals for finals matches, i suggested that the 'best' ovals be used for all games and to share the $$$ around a final at Victor may be catered for by the Mt Compass FC. It does work and is a win-win situation for the league and in this case Mount Compass as there would be a bigger crowd at Victor than there would be at Compass meaning more mouths to feed and more $$$.

Heres some information from the SFL thread.

damian wrote:
Does anyone know how the scheduling of ovals for finals works? Other leagues use a rotation system to give all clubs a chance to make a few $$$. Since i can remember Porties, Bice Oval, Noarlunga and Aldinga have been used for just about every final, do other clubs share in the profit at all?

The Mexican wrote:
Yeah mate they pick the best oval's we have in the comp and share it between them, this is the best way for players and spectators. They then somehow roster a club that doesn't "host" a final to come in and run the barbeque, beer tent etc as a way of them sharing in on the profit's of finals footy... Has worked for the best as now the GF has been taken away from Porties a few different clubs are there selling food etc which is a lot fairer... For years Porties could put say $8000 or more in their budget for the takings alone on GF day.
