The Reserves fight for the 5 is also another battle which will come down to next week:

4th Eagles...19 9 10 0 1580 1681 48.45 18
5th Central..18 9 9 0 1404 1546 47.59 18 - will most likely regain 4th place tomorrow
6th Port......18 8 10 0 1562 1622 49.06 16 - from an Eagles fan point of view would need Glenelg to win big tomorrow

And a very minor record today, that was the highest 2nd quarter score by Eagles against Norwood at Woodville.

7.3 (45) was scored, the previous highest was 5.5 (35) in Round 16 1994. It was the third highest 2nd quarter against Norwood, the top two are 9.5 (59) in Round 15 1991 at Football Park, and 8.6 (54) in Round 3 2006 at Adelaide.

A top team effort today. Thank you to all 1659 fans who came to the oval today.

Coach Ron Fuller again gave all praise to the players and stated that all contributed throughout the game. He was also pleased with the endeavour and being in front and putting bodies on the line.

Ron stated the match committee had an extremely difficult job doing best players but settled on

Best Mark McKenzie
2nd. Matthew Broadbent
3rd. Luke Powell
4th. Tom Corbett
5th. Craig Fitzgerald
6th. Luke Jarrad
With honourable mentions to the rest

Players MVP Luke Powell

Reserves Best James Rimmington
Col D

Sorry then Mick, you just lost all credibility with me then in terms of footy knowledge ... C'mon mate, you gotta stop eating the fish outta West Lakes if they're having that much affect

Well I have calmed down now Constance Perm  .If you had heard me when Schwarze was doing that fancy stuff .I was very critical of Norwoods backmen attack .How can I write this and it sound right. They were looking and going at the ball instead of going at Schwarze's body.school boy stuff really .But when Couch tried the same trick he did get tackled .
I must admit Norwood and the Eagles two's are both undersized when compared with Gelengs the week before .
And I need to catch more fish out of the lake bloody weather

Yeah, Tom Corbett has been fantastic. Has set the standard with his attack at the footy and man. We needed some more of these types to take the pressure off Powell and Treeby to do all the hard stuff in the middle. Special mention yesterday to Nathan Daniel as well. I thought it was his best game. Was playing on Campbell for a while and shut him down a little bit and managed to get the ball a bit himself as well. Has good hands in a tight situation - he does lack a lot of pace and is still raw at league level - but he did his job in the team admirably yesterday and deserves credit.

Assuming Treeby and Klun are ok next week - those two along with Rimington should be automatic inclusions. Possibly at the expense of Wright (injured), Daniel and Goldsworthy. The latter two would be unlucky - but will be better players with the taste they've had of league footy already. Hopefully Pete Fiacchi joins the likes of Schwarze and Cica in the resssies next week and they can add a bit of depth to our squad. The question still remains though, have we left our run too late?

PS. No way would our ressies beat Norwood's league. I read ccc's comments as in with the way our reserves went about their footy yesterday, they'd give our own league team a run for their money. More a compliment on the endeavour they showed and the calibre of some of the players playing...

Any chance McKenzie will get a few more Magarey votes thanks to his look a like long lost little brother?

Interesting to note that he started last year's Magarey with 4 BOG's. Could have either 2 or 3 votes in each of his last 6 matches.

Some stats from the game:

- Inside 50; W/WT 53, Norwood 36. After 1/4 time, it was 41-26.
- Marks in attacking 50: W/WT 11, Nwd 5.
- Contested possessions: W/WT 87, Nwd 72. After 1/2 time, this was 53-28.
- Key position players marks: W/WT - Passador 8, Grocke 6, McGregor 6.
NWD - Cockshell 0, Doyle 1, Rowe 2, Walker 3. David Trotter
leading mark taker for Norwood with 12

On the latter, Trotter's Magarey tally will be interesting to watch. While only playing limited games, has had a number of dominant performances in them, albeit some in losing teams.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

Have to say at the start of the 3rd qtr I was amazed to see no changes in the Norwood set-up. Walker was getting nothing up forward, start him in the middle or on the wing. Zorzi to the centre and Cockshell to full back. Losing Davis in the 2nd didn't help I know but come on, Weatherald on a half back flank?
Once again poor selections hurt us, Coombes instead of Aish the prime example.
For the sake of not looking stale, outdated and pigheaded would it hurt the Norwood "coaching panel  " to actually try to make some moves?
Hopefully our next coach announced his retirement from the AFL last Thursday! And will bring just one decent, competent quality assistant coach, not 3 yes journeymen.
And hopefully the "coaching panel  " will get rid of this stupid ethos that our current players will create their own history and get as many past Norwood players as possible to fill the rooms before the match this week! Wont happen because the Norwood Football Club of today just views itself as a breeding ground for AFL footballers and if a premiership comes along one day - bonus! More interested in making money than winning flags, time for a major clean-out of all the match day staff in my opinion. The place is stale. Volunteers I know and I believe they believe they are doing their best for Norwood, I wont argue that, just not working out. The head fitness guy is not a decent physical specimen and moves as fast as growing grass. I dont think too many at the Cows would have been said to see him go.
We are going backwards after being on the verge of regular finals participants at the end of 2005 IMHO.

OK so I admit being over the top about the two's
Treeby was a training injury Friday night another one from Friday night training!!!!
I still think it will take the biggest miracle ever to get over Port .Yes we beat Glenelg and Norwood two teams above us and two teams having on field problems .Port well they are or were in winning form.
A better start to the game and then keeping it up for four quarters is what needed.

oi mickyj !!! what are these on field problems we have ? :? :? as i don't think we have any, as for norwod they are a middle of the road team & in my calculations i rate them the 6th best team in the competition so they are going better than their ratings imho

Well i thought I'd get in trouble with that statement .
Then again you did have on field problems last week. are you saying your team has performed up to number 1 or 2 team in the league the last month. The guy who played FF last week was dropped for Kirk this week that could be a big help to the bays.
Mind you fingers crossed that the bays do win the next two games .

Just fast forwarded the tape to Hill's 1/4 and 3/4 time addresses to confirm what I already knew, how bloody uninspiring! Ben Knights made more moves in his commentary box than Hill has made all year!

Although I never responded to fire and brimstone coaches, I would have found it difficult to crash packs after listening to Trevor Hill. There's no enthusiasm in his voice whatsoever.

A hitherto unheard note of criticism regarding our current coach from AH.

You beaut.

Well we are in the finals barring a Pecker Blackbird draw next week. Hope this doesn't deflect all the problems we've had this year but we only need to win 4 in a row for the flag!

Well, we haven't made the finals yet, but we've done well against all teams except Glenelg this season. Just recently we thrashed Sturt, and lost to Central by 2 points. Our best is competitive, we just never know which Norwood is going to run out onto the ground. We've really only had 2-3 bad games ... a lot of average ones, but also some very good ones.
