I watched the Senior Colts game on the weekend between Compass and McLaren and it was a very good game. The compass boys went in very confident sitting top and playing McLaren who lost to pongy last week. The game was played at a good speed and the skills were high from both teams. Which raises my point if McLaren can beat our boys and they are sitting 5th but lose to sides below them, then how good is the senior colts comp. I must admit i have not seen heaps of senior colt games this year. Who do you guys think will win it, i had a look at some of the results from the GSFL website and it looks as though anyone in the top 5 can win it.

mkakes for an exciting finals series to watch

I'm no 'whiz with law' but crickey's if this were true then it couldn't be limited to sports and TV shows like 'funniest home videos' wouldn't have anything to show!! :o

i work within the recreation industry and am not sure weather it is u/17 or u/16 that it is illegal to film or take photos with out consent. There is definatly a law against it though. We have removed people before for trying to film their sons basketball games, i mean what is this world coming too if you can even film your sons basketball game.

So sauce out of victor and where to? and maybe the rumour from the start of the year isnt such a rumour anymore, simmo back to victor (both of them) not that junior is much of a loss, havent seen him do anything ever.

Good point Cuzzy, you could be right with Simmo back to Victor. But surely victor need to sort something out there, Saucey have spent lots of money in previous seasons and now he is leaving wats the deal?

I think cuzzy has more of an idea than me on this but i am confident there is a law, it applies to minors (whether that be u/16 or u/18 i don't know). It is illegal to film without parental consent. I would think Australia's funniest home videos would have to make sure they have parental consent of all people featured in their very unfunny clips. This guy from Mclaren could have some answering to do if the footage is shown, probably wise move not to put it on youtube!

Well there you have it there... surely it's not illegal to film if you're not 'publishing' it so to speak, as in putting it on you tube etc and it's for personal use.....like what if you're on holidays and filming in general and children are in the background etc, etc, etc.

But also in saying that what about things like the footy show 'almost football legends' etc... they show U18 games/mishaps all the time.... they wouldn't know every single player in each shot, surely.

It would be interesting to know though... I've never actually thought about it before until now.

Because of things like Almost Footy Legends, the law is leaving itself open to alot of problems and challenges against it. The law would be hard to police but in a case where the minor that has been filmed will be in more trouble if it is shown, surely he/his family would sue and try to take something good out of their bad situation. (I would) Unfortuante that there are so many pedophiles in this day and age that laws like this have had to come about!

If anyone finds the actual law, make sure to post it! I won't be filming my kids sport anymore!

Which absolutely sucks !!

Our kids aren't kids for long and why should we miss out on such things as them playing their sports and their achievements on film :(

You see parents filming sports all the time, so surely if it was illegal then we would all know about it.

How Many ???
Does anybody know any? I Dont.
Would it be 0.01% of the community? (1 in 10,000) or even less?
Just another example of the Majority of law abiding people being inconvenienced bcos of the actions of F.ALL.

"surely it's not illegal to film if you're not 'publishing' it so to speak"

A.Mum, the above statement would suggest that I could go and film U15 netball matches if it was for "personal use" and I was not "publishing" it and hence the reason why issues like this get bought up, but where do you draw the line? Possibly the film at the Saints v McLarens is illegal but surely you would have to be stiff to get done.

Very hard to win the flag from 4th or 5th spot which then points to Compass, Strath or the Creeks. Too close to call and whichever side has that little bit of luck at the right time in the finals will take it out.
Never seen a colts comp so competitive and even and makes for great viewing every week.

I know... in that instance if someone was just filming for their own 'personal use' and not because they had a child playing etc, etc, etc... it's just all too sad.... and yes children have to be protected.

0.01% too many!

Another good point about the security cameras, where is the line drawn!

This from the Legal Services Commission of South Australia - Law Handbook:

Photography and Film

There are no general restrictions on the taking of photographs or film in a public place or from a public place. The only restrictions would be that the photo not: be indecent (such as 'up the skirt' photos), of a child in a provcative or sexual manner, be used for voyeurism, protected by a court order (eg. child custody or witness protection), defamatory or being for commercial purposes.

If the photos or film are being taken on private property, then the owner of that property may impose their own limitations on who can take photos of what. This means that if a sporting club uses council owned property for its events then the council may impose limitations on photography. This does not stop someone taking photos on the private property from a public place outside that property.

My understanding of this would then be the video in discussion would not be illegal ??

Hope the last bit isn't a play on words LF.
By the way i'm pretty sure that you need GSFL approval to film any of the finals series in any grades. There was some problem at a final at Goolwa a couple of years ago if my memory is correct.

Yeah well in response to this A Mum i am not sure what to say because i dont wanna get my head ripped off on here. But i do believe the Grand Final needs to get rotated because it is not fair the same club having it all the time because then they continually get the proceeds from the Canteen and Bar etc.

However i do see where people are coming from on here in regards to the lack of parking at compass and i cannot see how it can be resolved.

Why dont they just play all GF @ the best grounds & rotate the gate and canteens? commonsense rarely prevails in the GSFL.

Southern have this system in place where 3 or 4 clubs share the canteen duties on GF day and get the takings from that.
