Amatuer league are doing it now, where the higher finishing side can play the game at home if they choose. Seems to be working really well, and even if some venues aren't of the best standard, the atmosphere of just being a final seems to be generated anyway.

Finishing top instead of 2nd, or 3rd instead of 4th, has to come with some sort of incentive. Tanunda may as well start resting blokes up now if the 2nd semi is at a neutral venue.

John Doe wrote:I cant agree with you on the home ground for the team that finishes top sven, would make it very unfair playing field financially if one team was to dominate over an extended period ie Nuri in the 90's

Shouldn't they be rewarded for their success though JD?

Pag, why should they be rewarded?, if they're good enough to finish top they don't need another advantage on top of a double chance, I'm not in favour of gifting the premiership to anyone, even if it's my club

Duke, you are right, atmosphere makes the day very special for all concerned. That was an especially big day as it was a local derby too. Bit like Carlton V Collingwood in the AFL.

Second gets a double chance too, so there is no incentive to push for top. Need to get our thinking out of the dark ages and start rewarding a club for progression. If a club is good enough to finish top each year good luck to them, they will lose imports and the world should be in balance at the start of each year. Good enough for amateurs good enough for BLGFA. Also noted they follow the same suggestion where they only play at home if they want to.

I'll take a ground any day of the week with 10/10 atmosphere and playing surface of 8/10 over a ground with a 6/10 atmosphere and 10/10 surface. Blokie, you would remember your last flag at Angaston, pretty good atmosphere son.

Firstly we are not the Amateur league, we have our own identity. Next you'll be suggesting we relegate Freeling's A grade to the B's & promote Tanunda's B's, efeffectively giving Tanunda 2 A grade teams.

What happens if, let's say Tanunda finish top, lose the 2nd semi & prelim, Tanunda would be hosting the gf & not playing?. Not saying it will be the case (losing), but one day that scenario will happen.

Lets not get away from the point of selecting the best venue. Home ground advantage does not necessarely mean that it is the clubs best playing surface. eg. Tanunda may have a preferred ground that they match up better against Barossa than they do on their own turf. This is why the home ground advantage debate is floored.
Lets just choose the best facilities for the day, rather than the association executive trying to make every one feel loved. Its for the betterment of the game. The BL&G want to be percevied as the best in the business, so lets parade that on that day in September rather than at some mediocre establishment.

Don't understand what you are trying to say here?

The conversation started with teh team finishing top have the right to play the SECOND semi final where they deemed best for themsleves, nothing to do with the GF

Yes we have our own identity, but that doesn;t put us above any suggestions. Lets go back and play with 20 players, one umpire, no send off rule etc etc, as none of these ideas came from the hallowed board room of the vine inn.

Interesting that you bring up relegation. As you are the definative voice of all things BLGFA in theis neck of the woods, would a super league of BLGFA and APFL ever work with a relegation system in place?? Both associations would lose the bye. Population base around gawler is going to increase. Freeling is goingto increase population.

Re: SAAFL Div 3 2008

Can confirm O'Conner to Freeling in 2009. He has already signed up Vinnie Urbancic on a three year deal as captain for $700 a game plus incentives(Vinnie's price went down if he was made captain).

Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:55 pm

uncle_fester

that contradicts the rumour i heard....
T.B.S. to freeling as The Big Os playing assistant coach.
He will be their #1 bigman and when not on the ball will rest at CHB.

J.D - Pleasure to be on board, I think that Kapunda and Angaston will fight out for the 4th spot. That is why tomorrows game will have a big bearing on the final outcome, I think Angaston will come up with the goods at home tomorrow.
South - Typically self destruct at this time of year, have been in this situation many a times.
Nuri - Playing above themselves and having a purple patch, but will come down to earth tomorrow. They have already printed the best players for this weeks Sunday Mail M.Cragg-Sapsford, S.Gibson, B.Nichols, C.Gerhardy, R.Foulis, J.Trewren (should get 4/6).
Willaston - Falling apart by the minute, they have quickly gone from hero to zero..

It's not gifting anyone a premiership mate, you still gotta win it, but why do we play 18 rounds of minor round football? To finish 2nd? You want to put yourself in the best position to win a grand final, and logically, that should be top.

If Adelaide played West Coast in a semi-final say, do they play it at the MCG or Telstra Dome? Of course not, the one who finished higher has earnt the right to have it at home.

By your logic, we may as well start saying that whoever finishes 5th should get the same rights as whoever finishes 4th.

Wow I missed a massive forum over the past 24 hours. Firstly I agree with proper ground selection for the GF but no home ground advantage. I would like to see the finals shared around more evenly though, Blockie you would have to agree with this, how many have you hosted in the last 10 years? 1 or 2, while nuri get heaps. Speaking of nuri, there was a meeting on tues night between the BLG, Barossa FC and the Nuri parks (not Nuri FC) about the bad behavior of the barossa cheer squad at the game held at nuri. Do not know the outcome but the Nuri parks certainly wants no part in the finals series this year. Apparently it got pretty messy with bay 13 and the caravan park has put in a massive complaint and wants it dealt with.

As for O'Connor that sounds like a complete load of BS, and if it is true can you imagine the Freeling locals mood when their hero Leske is ousted as captain and replaced by an import chasing cash, I don't think so. I know this site is here to spread rumours but that is BS.

As for the discussion about 4th spot I think it really matters now, the GF will be between the blockies and barossa and they will slaughter all in front of them.

In the Yorke Pen League they simply have a cycle going between all clubs with who hosts the GF, it is very simple it is basic merry go round and there are no questions asked and it is shared evenly from year to year. Last year Maitland hosted the GF and all clubs knew this 5 plus years out and as it turned out Maitland (CY Cougers) won both A & B grades. Just food for thought it works over there and it doesn't discriminate.

I don't know about the rest of you but I reckon bay 13 are OK, it adds atmosphere. Let the goon squad stay!

Skip do you really think freeling will be opposed to any cash chasing import, pretty much sums up their squad of the last four years until 2008 but the whole O'Connor rumour is crap anyway

JD never had a problem with Bay 13 just reporting the facts. Can confirm though that Leal was told on Tuesday night at Freeling that he will not be required as coach next season, that is fact. Apparently he is very disapointed and did want to go on next year as some of the import rules where going to fall into his favour. It sounds as though Freeling will have to build from the bottom up as all imports from this season are walking with him.
