So ridiculous that this is classified as a ODI. I mean James Marshall has a score of 161 now in an International match. Kind of detracts from the prestige of scoring an international hundred.

NZ scored 140 off the last 8 overs of their innings.

also see that Ireland won the toss and sent NZ in to bat.
U would have thought they would have done the opposite to save them from embarrassment.

The biggest indictment would be that DL Vettori wasn't required to bowl.
What a pasting tho.

Ireland are a part of the "Top Tier" ICC ODI Championship and are currently ranked 10th of the 12 nations (ahead of Zimbabwe and Kenya). Ireland and Kenya were promoted from "Associate ODI level", where Scotland, Netherlands, Canada and Bermuda remain.

Based a lot on their performance in last years world cup i imagine. In a world cup campaign these lesser countries would get a few quality ring ins and once the world cup is over it's back to reality. Ireland had 6 guys making their ODI debuts and one of those was making his List A debut. FFS hardly worthy of International status.

A few stats from this game

- New Zealand's 290-run triumph eclipsed the previous record for the largest win (by runs) by 33 runs.
- James Marshall and Brendon McCullum became the first opening pair to pile up 150-plus scores in the same innings. It was also the first ODI hundred for both Marshall and McCullum.
- New Zealand's total of 402 for 2 is their best in ODIs, and the sixth ODI total over 400.
- The 266-run stand between Marshall and McCullum is by far New Zealand's highest partnership, and the second-best opening stand in ODIs.
- The 18 sixes hit by New Zealand equals the record for most sixes by a team in an ODI. McCullum was just two hits short of the record for most sixes in an innings by a batsman.
- Marshall's hundred came up in 120 balls, his next fifty, in 14.
