Ireland are a part of the "Top Tier" ICC ODI Championship and are currently ranked 10th of the 12 nations (ahead of Zimbabwe and Kenya). Ireland and Kenya were promoted from "Associate ODI level", where Scotland, Netherlands, Canada and Bermuda remain.

Based a lot on their performance in last years world cup i imagine. In a world cup campaign these lesser countries would get a few quality ring ins and once the world cup is over it's back to reality. Ireland had 6 guys making their ODI debuts and one of those was making his List A debut. FFS hardly worthy of International status.
