Things will be changing at the Saints next year TC but your mail about the Wilsons is wrong. The locals mentioned as well as some current players may not be happy, but this could possibly be to do with another recruit and not the Wilsons. You need to remember that we recruited Adam and Hayden, then got Scott and Jared free of charge (4 for the price of 2). As well as this Greg (father) is an absolute work horse around the place. The to top things off the netabll club will get a star netballer next year. Cant see why anyone would be unhappy with that.

Are Saints starting the change next year by getting rid of Popey?

I cant believe your already talking next year up! Didnt you fall in the trap of doing that this season - ever heard of just letting things go and flying under the radar?

Oh, and Luvs Footy, 4 for the price of 2 with the Wilsons is all well and good, but the issue is the other 2 cannot play and locals are missing out because Popey is playing those two ahead of them. Even the 2 on the big money are not living up to their so called "reputations" and the locals know they are on the big coin. Money that could be better spent on some decent recruits that could lift the team off the bottom.

Which locals are missing out on a game , to my knowledge saints do not have the depth in the seconds . Some players may have left due to a player coming to the club , I'm sure this wil be discussed further as popey has been reappointed for a further 2 years . As far as the wilsons being overpaid and not living up to their so called reputations that is for talk at the bar with yourself TC and the other tripple brownlow medalists .

maybe it was the inclusion of Johnny "ak" Jarrad that got peoples noses up. maybe hes getting them out on the turps every friday instead of the a queit night in like your meant to. A comment i heard from a saints player on sat night at the crown, "our season is a joke", i replied with yep thats pretty funny and had a laugh.

I fail to see where in my statement I "talked up" next year. "Things will be changing" probably suggests changes in certain areas of the club. For example there may be administration changes. "Talking Up" certainly did not come in to it. And just on a side note the other 2 Wilsons had great games on the weekend and both got in the best.

I am genuinely surprised that the Saints have made the move to reappoint Pope for two years. Obviously the administration lacks the backbone to get rid of a tried and tested formula that obviously isn't working for anyone down there.

Just because saints havent won many games TC it doesnt mean that things are not working at the club . Maybe the fact they have a losing mentality that takes time to turn around , games that have been close could have gone the other way but they didnt . Average losing margin last year was 80+ points this year under 40 . Bring a coach that costs 10 K doesnt mean that things will turn around automatically , popey offered to stand down but the club has gone through 4 coaches in 8 years and wanted stability . Its easy for people who are in a successful club to tell lower clubs what to do but changing the culture and football mentality takes time . If your that interested in the saints come down and have a look first hand .

Not that i'm sticking up for Luvsfooty at all, but if you read through his posts preseason, I don't think he had any misconceptions about where the club was going to finish this year. Everyone else was talking them after hearing about their recruits saying they were going to be playing finals this year, where in fact Footyislife said not to get too far ahead of yourselves as they were bottom last year and have got a long way to go.
As it was said above, it can take a while to break that losing mentality at a club, so at least it sounds as though they are travelling in the right direction.
The only time i've ever been wrong...was when I thought I was wrong!!!

Correct panther , I actually said they would finish 7 th . It has not been helped that 3 of the recruits saints gained 2 havent and wont play a game and the 3rd player has only managed 4 games and looks to be also finished for the year . Disappointing when this happens and further raises TC's issues about locals missing out .

Thanks for sticking up for me Panther and once again you are 100% correct. I have had enough of negative Saints talk. Here's the tips for this week.

Willunga 75 points (Yank really improving but the juggernaut continues to roll forward)
Bays 35 points (Too good on their home deck, but dont underestimate the mudlarks)
VH 20 points (Interesting battle with a couple of ex Goolwa boys playing for VH)
Compass 10 points (Home ground advantage)
Creek 60 points (Going very well considering the max exodus after last year)

I was just reading back through the same P32. Most people expected the saints to be the big movers this season but LF stated that yes they have bought in some new players but they had lost just as many then one or two recruits have failed to commit due to personal reasons so they really just replaced what they lost in locals I guess. It was also said that they have recruited not just for this season, they picked guys like the Wilsons up as long term players. I recall in the times during pre-season all the talk about the surprise side was the saints but it seems Victor have been the side to rise this season and will be looking to build in the coming years with the return of local players and to gain more recruits.

After chatting with the Wilsons and a couple of others the other week the place is heading in the right direction. The way to recruit is to get guys like Yeomans etc that hang around, not fly in 1 year and fly out the next as the Saints have done in the past. U dont go from bottom to top in 1 year, it takes time and energy and the place looks to be heading in the right direction!!! Hopefully some exciting times ahead for them!

Tips
Willunga, Yank to be a good opposition tho, there results are impressive when all there players on the park.
Bays, Mudlarks to test them but Bays a bit classier
Victor, Starting to fire up and Goolwa playing for pride only whereas Victor playing for finals football.
Strath, Feel they are going to fire up for this one, need to keep disciplined and shut down Burdett and Maxfield in the middle.
Creeks, Quietly going about there business after the loss to Yank and will be there come finals time.

I'm not close enough to the Saints to know what is going on down there, but I hope that a great clubman like Popey doesn't get hung out to dry because he's ruffled a few feathers with some players, and or some disgruntled supporters that might of thought that success was gonna happen overnight.

Popey has the makings of a great coach, he was impressive with the colts a few years back, he's passionate about what he's doing and I think he is there for the right reasons (the club), he was also a much better player than most of the boys he's coaching which must be frustrating for him.

To be in the drivers seat at a club that hasn't had any recent success, and is trying to turn that around is the toughest gig in footy. Recruiting, getting guys to training, making sure young kids get a go, tapping into the new players and finding out what makes them tick.... it would be so hard.

I just hope that the Saints don't take a great clubman for granted, and expect things to turn around overnight. Another new coach won't fix anything, it takes more than that to be a successfull club... Get behind him TC!!!!

I'm not personally against anyone, including Popey, but the facts speak for themselves. If keeping Popey on for another two years could affect a new great committee coming in, then the decision may have undone a lot of work that has been going on behind the scenes and the possibility of a big signing that would have cleaned out the players on points now. If that's the case, what waste and how sad.
Tips for this week -
Willunga by 80 points, althoug Yank will try hard.
Victor Harbor by 30 points, although i think the Saints will play with a bit of heart.
Compass by 20 points
Bays by 25 points
Creek by 50 points
