AFL v NRL Footy Show

Postby GWW » Fri Apr 14, 2006 1:17 am

For some time i've actually thought that the NRL Footy Show on channel 9 is probably more entertaining than the AFL version. Almost Footy Legends is entertaining and i dont mind watching Street Talk either, although like most others i cringe at the treatment given to some of the "unfortunates" after their 10 seconds of fame. But essentially, the AFL Footy Show is not really worth watching...the teams we can get off the net and for a sensible discussion there are other better forums.

All this despite the fact that Rugby League is one hell of a boring sport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it wasn't for Sam Newman the Footy Show would have died a decade ago.
I used to like the NRL show but haven't watched it for a while.
Great game but needs to be run like it is in the UK before it starts going forwards again.
Give me UK RL over the NRL anyday.
Go the Leeds Rhinos!

So does that mean you barrack for the English side against the Kangaroos in tests then?

In what ways do the English administer their game better than NRL?

Sad to say but I have despite having no allegiances to England.
But the way I looked at it was there was quite a few of my club involved with England but none involved with the green and yellow and afterall it was a combined NSW/QLD side and I have no allegiances to either of those states. Easy decision really.
I always have been a very club orientated person in every sport I follow.
Rest assured though, the last 3 tri-nations tournaments had my family barracking against me.
English RL is awesome, its more attacking, the crowd is more involved, they're much more passionate and close to the game, its promoted as a real family game in the UK and they do a great job IMHO, much more families than you'll ever find watcing soccer.
No Canbebury Bulldogs Lebs demoloshing stadiums or beating up people too which is always a bonus.
Even things as low as buying jersey, it cost me less money to import a Leeds top including postage than it does to buy a Raiders top in Australia!
Honestly, you only have to watch half a dozen English RL games to know what I'm on about.

As far as standard goes, the NRL is still on top but its based around a defence game and the clubs IMHO don't have 10% of the heart of UK clubs.
(Bit like AFL compared to SANFL).

I luv my UK Rugby League, 2nd best comp in the world behind the SANFL IMHO. (but I'm a rarity ;))

The NRL Footy Show is just as bad as the AFL Footy Show.

Only thing worth watching is five minutes of Reg Reagan each week.

The rest is just filler.

I watch both footy shows but do prefer NRL footy show when they do their stunts.
Where do you get the teams from the net?

i live in canberra where afl on tv is like a myth unless you follow the swans who are always shown when they play. but back to the question nrl ...good sketches and guys are fun but not much detail or discussion about the games. afl..... is the other way round :D

Living over here we get a bit of NRL and AFL. In 2003 when I first come here we had the AFL footy show first on Thursday night then late on Friday nights, its changed since 2004 and we have the NRL show on first. I really enjoyed the NRL show in 2004 but since then it has become average, especially since Fatty had the accident. I think they also ruined the show when they took Mario out of the studio as he was good value. The AFL show to me has ben going to the dogs for a while, although I watched the other night and it wasn't too bad, but it was really good in the mid 90's but just doesn't seem to have the same sort of spark anymore.

Hehehehe... DAREDEVIL DUDES!!

Loved their trip to the Hawkesbury River, forget what it was they took a ride on, only remember that it was like riding a kite because the rider would eventually start to fly on this thing.
