What do the players think of Scott Kelly? Also is the former coach Bob Hooper still involved with the Hawks?

Tatts thats exactly what I am saying I don't think pinching B-Graders from other clubs is what needs to be done. If they have funds now they should get in good equipment like weights and make it a place where locals want to come and play there footy. They have to get out there inyto primary schools and even the High Schools and get the word out come down to Hackham.
Also I think what would help Hackham a great deal would be a coach that is prepared to do the extra work off the ground to promote the club to the community like going to Schools?

Navy2005 - A high profile coach would help sell the club no doubt but a long term plan to get to the top 4 is what is needed i think. At Morphies they planned what is happening now 10 years ago when the likes of the Beechings,Pollards,Nadilos were on the junior committe. And the fact that they sent alot of players to South in this era and that they all came back when they had finished at South certainly helped as did the appointments of Trevor Potts and Steve Hill

Tatts again I totally agree with what your saying. There is no quick fix to the problem down at Hackham but what I am suggesting they do is start building a strong junior program with a A-Grade coach that is prepare to do the hard work by promoting the club and persevere with the club thru the hard times in order for the club to eventually be successful. I don't necessarily belive they need a high profile coach I think what they need from their coach is somone committed to implementing a long term plan and prepare to see it thru.

Just a quick update on the Hawks....

The club has welcomed the Kelly Gang with open arms.... Scott (from what I have seen) is a fantastic leader and he is as hard as nails on the playing group! No more easy training sessions and no more players just rocking up on Saturdays and getting a gig without doing the hard yards during the week!

A lot of juniors are improving in leaps and bounds as well.... We will see some filter through the senior sides as the season progresses....

A strong pre-season has left a solid amount of senior players with good fitness, but again the numbers could be a lot higher at training!

Under Kelly & Co, I really think the club will move ahead in leaps and bounds.... It may not be noticable straight away in results, but he is basically having to change the whole culture at the club! The players have now realised that you either put in the hard yards, or you pi$$ off!!

Respect is very high for Scott (IMHO) and it is great to see some real focus amongst the seniors.... It will be a long road back to being a strong club, but the right steps are being taken....

Good to hear that the Hawks re finally starting to turn things around I am sure it will take awhile to get back to being competitive but I thought that the Kelly boys would be a big help in starting to turn things around.

By the way how is Dave Kelly going? is he playing in the middle very handy footballer. GO HAWKS!

Dave is going really well.... playing between the middle and half back.... In fact, they are all firing at the moment.... Scott's hands are like bloody glue!

Some really pleasing results on the weekend....

Under 16's defeated Marion by around 12 goals...

B Grade came back from 3 goals down at half time, to be 4 goals up at the last break.... But unfortunately a lack of fitness and a few mental lapses allowed the Lions to come back hard.... Game ended in a draw!

A Grade was very impressive.... Led at Qtr time.... Led at half time.... Then just a couple of silly 50m penalties and a few lapses in concentration cost them the game.... Ended up going down by 4 goals...

I would like to see more people at training.... and I think if the teams can keep improving and showing the fighting spirit that Hackham is known for, then this could be a very important season in the future of the club!

Have got a few injuries..... But I think The Hawks have a much stronger side than in previous years!

Not too sure that Lonsdale will be around for many more years.... Without junior sides they will struggle to stay in the competition I think....

But mark my words, Hackham are getting better!

Hey Warrior Hawk, how is Kymmy Evans going this year, getting much of a kick? Is he still captain under the Kelly's regime?

Not captain.... As Scott has taken the mantle of Captain/Coach.... But Kymmy is still in the leadership group....

Has played really well as usual... He is a massive part of the club and his leadership on and off the track is as important as it is impressive!

Played a really good game against Lonsdale on the weekend.... Even chipping in with 2 sneaky goals (One where he read the play brilliantly from one of Scott's marking attempts)

Will be interesting to see how the boys go against the Bushpigs on the weekend.... I am not expecting a win by any means, but I highly doubt it will be a flogging (as of recent times)

Guy's what going on down there regarding the Under 18's I here there has been some strife down there and the Under 18's coach has left the club anyone with a comment?

Be terrible new for the club having a strong junior program would do the Hawks a world of good in rebuilding the club.

Yes, the U18's coach has left.... Was a tool anyway.... An U18's coach has to be prepared to let his better players have a run in the senior sides.... This was not happening....

The U18's are really struggling for numbers at the moment and I think it had a lot to do with the coach.... I am hoping that the numbers will pick up now and we will start to see some real developement in these young men....

With the strong showing by the U16's so far, the future looks good for our U18's over the next few years.... But only time will tell.... Hard work and commitment is needed by all involved (on and off the field)
