What sort of dog do you have/would you recommend?

Postby Wedgie » Fri Nov 11, 2005 6:55 pm

I've got a Cocker Spaniel cross Boxer.
I wouldn't recommend her to anyone as a breed as she's pretty damn stupid but there's not a bad bone in her body.
Also its a good cross as she's got the short Boxer hair and is the size of a Cocker, her mum was a Boxer so the dad must have been a pretty athletic Cocker!
As I type this she's out the back barking at nothing which drives Mrs Wedgie insane, mind you I don't think Mrs Wedgie has ever liked her as she's black and white! ;)

What dog do you have and would you recommend it?

PS Here's 2 pictures of "Jemma" as she looked as a puppy and as she looks now, my daughter named her after the lip gloss Big Brother contestent a few years back.

I would recommend a bengal cat, as loyal as a dog but still, as independant as a cat.

i have a Fox Terrier, and i rekon its got brain damage, cos its dumb as all hell, but its a pretty funny dog, getting less and less active though, as it has arthritis, has a split personality, as long as you train them and are strict with them when they are young they would make a pretty good Dog for anyone.
Here is a picture of him, chillin on his couch.

I have a doberman crossed with a german shepard.

Haven't been robbed in 10 years - I even leave the backdoor* open when I go out.

When our son was born we wanted to get a dog, but we didn't know what to get. My brother inlaw had recently rescued a mis treated (beaten by a garden hose and tied up to a clothes line) 2yo Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The first time Zoe (the Staffie) came over after Zac was born he was laying in his bouncie, Zoe walked over gave him a sniff, then sat beside him, taking gaurd, and casiing anyone who came near him. We were amazed that a dog who had been treated so badly showed the motherly instinct that Zoe showed.
A few months later we picked up our Staffie pup, Nikki.
A 2 month old dog, and 10 month old son was a bit of a hand full, a few weeks later we could here Zac pissing himself laughing, and went to investigate, there was Zac taking disposable nappies out of the box, and giving to the dog to "shake to death" was priceless, but messy. They have been inseperable ever since, and she just loves people. When our daughter was abot 18 months old, she shoved a pencil up Nikki's nostril, the dog yelped, then growled (the only time she has ever growled at a human), then realising she had growled at one of the kids, put her tail between her legs and hid behing the lounge.
After having her for 11 years I would never have anything but a Staffie now, she even shares the house with a 18yo Tom cat, and the back yard with 2 Guinea Pigs, and a Rabbit.

My bestest "baby" was a 13 and a half stone rottweiller named Buster, since passed away. While a fearsome looking animal (and they don't breed them that big anymore due to hip problems), he was a big softie and so very lovable.

Also two dobermanns (bitches) Sasha and Sheena. They were also notso big softies but Sasha was the noisy one hence no breakins.

Smaller breeds that I've had are little Australian silky terriers, great with kids and like a game (can be a bit on the barky side).

I would recommend any breed of dog so long as you know your animal, their limitations, how they behave with children and people, they are shown a lot of love and respect and get to all the vets visits they're supposed to.

Mrs TB and I are currently looking to get a puppy...in fact we have been for yonks...we can't seem to make up our freaking minds.

I had a beagle growing up, which was an amazing pet and she's had a border collie, golden retriever and an Afghan Shepherd (black German Shepherd) which is an absolutely gorgeous thing...

Fugg knows what we'll end up getting...hell, in 3 years time, I may re-visit this thread and seek further advice.
