His sister was my son's nurse when he was fighting for his life in the Gold Coast University hospital for about a month, she would sit in our room and watch the BBL with us when he was playing, that's enough for me.

Not that I love him.. but Left arm OS as opposed to Lyon RAOS.

No real decent leg spinners getting around (Swepson maybe?)

Rocchiccioli and Murphy are both RAOS so are outsiders until Lyon steps aside.

Yep very unlucky. Just has to time his runs right with all the retirements coming up and he might get to end his career with a few years of test cricket

McSweeney
Patterson
Green

Have to be the next 3 surely.

I can't believe he's coming up 32, he's the 2nd unluckiest Australian cricketer of my time.

How fitting would it be to return to the side 6 years after debuting and playing against the same country?

Personally, I think I'd make myself unavailable and keep the 144 average to show the grandkids.

Who's top?

Brad Hodge would probably be mine.

No doubt Macgill would've played 100 tests in any other era. But he still had a fair career at international level (44 tests).

Jamie Siddons IMO, Hodge warrants consideration though, was his axing attitudinal? He made way for Martyn for memory the first time he was dropped IIRC?

I remember Punter copping backlash for batting too long and allowing him to get a double hundred that probably cost us the win.

I love the cricket knowledge on here, I made a judgement and then a few more options pop up that are more than reasonable.

I remember Siddons carving it up for Victoria and then making the switch to here which pretty much put a nail in his selection coffin, he was utterly brilliant.

There's a fair list, Hodge and Lehmann ( 27 Tests most ever Shield runs ) would be right at the top, but :

Di Venuto never played a Test, Cox averaged 50 in 8 consecutive Shield seasons ( over 1300 in one season! ) and never got a baggy green, Martin Love only played 5 Tests, Bichel played 19 Tests behind McGrath, Gillespie and Lee, he charged in all day with over 400 Shield wickets.

Siddons, Elliott, Maher...they deserve a mention.

Watched him & Mark Waugh dominate the Kiwis in the first day nighter at Adelaide Oval. Followed by the standard collapse, only for Bevo to rescue us, again.

I'm voting for Boof, with Siddons the unluckiest to have never played.

Siddons also responsible for one of the greatest sledging comebacks in cricket folklore.

One of the Waughs (I forget which one) taking guard after coming in, taking an age to scuff out middle peg.

Siddons: "This isn't a test match you know"

"Of course not, you're here".

Michael Bevan could never replicate ODI or SS form with his opportunities in tests.

Martin Love was terribly unlucky not to play more, same with Stuart Law.

Bichel was the perennial 12th man for Australia wasn't he? Or was that Kasprowicz? I can't remember haha! Both talented bowlers.

Ah cricket.. aint what it used to be

Bichel was 12th man all the time.

Bevan, like Symonds, awesome white ball but never turned them into true red ball numbers.

Dave Hussey was unlucky at the level down, he plundered runs in most comps but had trouble even holding his spot in Victoria, I think that was to do with being outspoken.

Two early names from when I started watching who never ever got a look in and thats why they took the Krugerrands in 1984 were Greg Shipperd (WA/TAS) and Mick Taylor Victoria

Taylor average 46 in a 75 game first class career (5000 runs) and Shipperd averaged 42 and scored 6000 FC runs, both decent careers

Not saying they should've been selected over the Chappells, Hughes, Border, Hookes, Jones, Boon etc in the middle order.

Reckon he'd need Bradmanesque numbers to do that...
