Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

Lived in Perth for 3 years in a State Manager role which I saw first hand the effects mining has on the economy with cashed up bogans so got a pretty good idea mate. Still thanks for the economic information Tom Piotrowski.

Put up what exactly? People have criticized the selection of a captain your response is to get very defensive and say "Put up or shut up"?

Also Sticks is an intelligent man and also was a much better player that Walker is at the moment. I dont believe a comparison between the two at the moment is fair on Walkers part.

As I have said it is an interesting appointment by the crows because at least he says what he thinks. Hard to judge if it will be a good or bad appointment.

Has walker done anything to warrant the hype he gets???

He was the second best forward when tippett was there and would always get the weaker defender. Then early 2013 (before he did his knee) when he was the main forward he struggled. Even though that was for only a few games...
And since he's been back he certainly hasn't set the world on fire. I am aware he's coming back from a serious knee injury.

Before all you crows fans get your back up, i'm not saying he's not very good, i actually like Tex and would like to see him do well...

As pointed out, it was a very interesting decision. Only time will tell if the decision is a good one or not.

Tex as a footballer has the trust and respect from everyone in the club, and will be a great link between the players (both senior and new) and coaching staff. His on field presence is that of a Jonathan Brown (although he has a long way to go to rival that) and I think it will only improve his football with the extra focus of his on field performance.

Tex in the media is a different story. Comes across slow and a meat head (no one mentions Swanny in this regard in front of the media which he is), but i think he has a bit more of a clue than he lets on. At the end of the day he is 24 and enjoys the social side of life, it just happens to be as an AFL footballer which is in the spotlight a bit more.

He's not going to be perfect, but i am sure he will embrace the challenge and become a better person/ footballer because of it.

What if Tony Modra was named captain in 1995, say?

What would have the reaction been then?

Dunno, just asking the questions.

A lot of this perception comes from his interactions on the footy show with Sam Newman which he is clearly happy to ham it up for the laughs. Clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed but you don't have to be - if you are a leader through your actions and you make your team mates play for you and better because of you then you have the potential to be a good captain and walker has all of that. Time will tell whether he turns that into being a good captain.

You can see the "club first" mentality of Walsh in this appointment though. Could have easily gone one of the bigger stars or more polished media performers, but tex epitomises the crows. Hopefully he does well

Seems a very different character to me. Tony seemed to be as much about himself as the club. Not saying he was selfish just that he made sure he was noticed. A little like Dangerfield now in a way.

Still only 24. His best is ahead of him.

Kicked 63 goals in 2012 and would have kicked 50 last year if he had played a full season, which is very good considering the comeback from injury.

Reckon he will kick 50+ this year which is the benchmark for an elite forward.

Well he kicked 29 in 13 games which averages out to 49 if he played every game. So not an unreasonable assumption.

Well I'll "assume" that after kicking 29 goals, teams would've looked to shut him down, he kicked 4 goals in the next 8 games, and then belted someone out of frustration and got a 2 weeks suspension. During that suspension he developed an ice addiction, lost 40 kgs, and ended up scratching a 10cm hole in his forearm.

Is that an unreasonable assumption?
