SANFL seeks expressions of interest for AAMI Stadium redevelopment

The long-term vision to transform the AAMI Stadium precinct into a vibrant community has taken another important step forward with the SANFL today seeking expressions of interest from developers.
Submissions are being sought for the purchase of all or portions of the 23-hectare site, which encompasses AAMI Stadium and surrounding lands bordered by Frederick Road, West Lakes Boulevard, Turner Drive and Brebner Drive.
The successful purchaser(s) will be required to develop an integrated Master Plan for the entire site, incorporating a mix of residential housing, retail and open community space.
The Development Planning Amendment for the site was gazetted by the State Government in early November 2013 with the precinct predominantly rezoned as an Urban Core Zone.
SANFL Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker AM said the League’s long-term commitment to the local community would continue throughout the life of the redevelopment.
“The SANFL has been a proud part of the West Lakes community since 1974 and we are determined to ensure the redevelopment honours football’s heritage and the community’s involvement in its success,” Mr Whicker said.
“We are looking to provide opportunities for public use and access to the existing AAMI Stadium oval as the development proceeds and, together with incorporation of open space on the Max Basheer Reserve, this will provide major recreational areas for the local and wider community.”
The Adelaide Football Club will remain as a tenant with its current lease agreement keeping the club on the site until 2048.
The process is being conducted by Realtycorp Property Solution with submissions closing on March 11th 2014.

Agreed- I think Mirvac did an excellent job with Waverley and there is no reason footy park couldnt turn out to be something similar.

I wonder if the SANFL will lobby with the state govt to have a portion of a stand heritage listed, similar to the KG Luke stand at Waverley?

How much money will go back to the SANFL clubs and how much to the AFL clubs?

At this stage, Whicker just refers to it shoring up the future for "the clubs" (in South Australia).

i would think they would all get a cut, as they should, no idea on the percentages though, hopefully the SANFL clubs get most of it, and the AFL clubs get their benefit through the expected better crowds etc at AO

Why should the AFL clubs get a cut? The SANFL won't own their licenses by sale time, and the land was owned before the AFL clubs were created/introduced.

I dont think Benny was saying they would. I think he was referring to the benefit the AFL clubs would recieve by the move to Adelaide Oval.

Might be tough here at the moment for a major development. The SA economy isnt exactly grabbing ya by the nuts. Also with the expected flop caused by holdens pulling out its going to.be very slow for a while. What im saying is it may not get the legs.

A few years. Try about 7 - 10 to be realistic. State be rooted. In a few years it will be more so.
