Spot on, Wristy.
What's wrong with a little discipline? A well-timed smack when deserved can prevent a kid growing into a prick with an exaggerated sense of entitlement, like many teenagers and young adults you see today. If smacking is done right, a kid will know that his/her actions will have consequences, and will be conditioned not to repeat their mistakes.
But the bleeding hearts out there think that any form of discipline (smacking, loss of privileges, time outs etc) is an infringement on a child's rights. When I was a kid, I had a right; the right to do what I was bloody well told.

Now I admit I can dribble shit with the best of them and there is a time and a place for me to clog the pie hole but I don't think a 3 year old or 5 year old should be telling their uncle to shut up especially when they are not even being spoken too. "Oh no, that's not nice" just doesn't cut it for me. Discipline and respect I really believe will one day be words that us old folk had back in our day.
I feel better for having vented

I may have bought some of it onto myself as when she has has a tantrum and screams and cries and there are actually no tears I just laugh. Last visit she screamed and cried with mass water fountain effect because she was told no that she couldn't open a pack of Tim Tams at 11pm at night. Guess who ended up getting to open them???
I can't say or do anything because they are not my kids, thank God for Sa Footy

Brutality to children must be stopped, but basic discipline sometimes involves a short sharp - but restrained - shock.
