Seeing my 5 year old nephew this week who was my favourite relative only to find out that now he is at school he has turned into a rude, obnoxious, selfish, lying little shit. So desperately just needs one good pull your head in smack....Brings me to my next one, watching some fat pompous self righteous lesbian looking f@cktard on morning tv trying to make anyone who smacks their kids in any way a criminal offence. Now I'm all for jailing anyone who abuses or physically harms a child but a smack on the ass when a kid is feeding the dog strawberries shouldn't have me going to jail

I too have a gripe about the whole do-gooders trying to stop smacking thing.

This is the exact reason kids are all little shits nowdays - because they've never received a good ol' belt around the arse.

Spot on, Wristy.

What's wrong with a little discipline? A well-timed smack when deserved can prevent a kid growing into a prick with an exaggerated sense of entitlement, like many teenagers and young adults you see today. If smacking is done right, a kid will know that his/her actions will have consequences, and will be conditioned not to repeat their mistakes.

But the bleeding hearts out there think that any form of discipline (smacking, loss of privileges, time outs etc) is an infringement on a child's rights. When I was a kid, I had a right; the right to do what I was bloody well told.

It seems we all agree for once  so you can imagine my feelings when my 3 year old niece told me "Shut up, stop talking" when I was trying to have a conversation at the dinner table.

Now I admit I can dribble shit with the best of them and there is a time and a place for me to clog the pie hole but I don't think a 3 year old or 5 year old should be telling their uncle to shut up especially when they are not even being spoken too. "Oh no, that's not nice" just doesn't cut it for me. Discipline and respect I really believe will one day be words that us old folk had back in our day.

I feel better for having vented :)

In my day, if I said something along the lines of what your niece had said, I'd have been banished from the table, regardless of whether I'd finished my dinner or not. I hope your niece's parents put her in her place.

No mate, that's why I needed to vent. As the misses said "let it go and pick your battles wisely". Just massively disappointed with the fact they need their heads pulled in and it's doesn't seem like its going to happen.

I may have bought some of it onto myself as when she has has a tantrum and screams and cries and there are actually no tears I just laugh. Last visit she screamed and cried with mass water fountain effect because she was told no that she couldn't open a pack of Tim Tams at 11pm at night. Guess who ended up getting to open them???

I can't say or do anything because they are not my kids, thank God for Sa Footy

You're right for wanting to vent. I see relatives and mates with their kids, and it seems kids can get away with a lot more than what we used to.

It almost makes me not want to have children myself...

Safooty has also given me an outlet to vent, although like my wife, I'm sure you're all sick to death of my rantings.

Precisely...Words I wish I could yell but alas It would open a can of worms, a can of whoopass and set off a massive fight amongst the family. She runs the household

Funny thing is my sister has 6 kids and the first 4 were raised with strict discipline and the last two with the new husband it seems like she is going with the "CBF parenting technique" where you dress the kid up like a million dollars, they look amazing and act like assholes when they don't get their own way.

Spending all day moving house. Drive the truck I borrowed from work back to the warehouse. Went to get the keys to the car I left here this morning, and realise I left the keys at the house.

So now Im in my office, after hours, on my day off, tired and grumpy as ****.

On the upside though, gonna smash some free coffee and use some free internet.

Brutality to children must be stopped, but basic discipline sometimes involves a short sharp - but restrained - shock.

Exactly, but unfortunately, as you'd probably see way too often in your career, some parents cannot differentiate between discipline and abuse.

When done right, a simple smack can act as a wonderful deterrent.
