The Q Man announced himself as a genuine contender for this year's Hogg Premier Title with a massive 2525 in a week where Ablett and Johnson did not play and Watson lasted about five minutes. When he posted his side the other day most Premier League coaches would have shuddered and he is going to take some stopping this season. The task proved to be beyond ladder leader Poon Army who have now dropped their last two matches and have had their lead cut to one match.

It was a good week for the top eight sides with most of them consolidating their place in the eight (!@#$%^!!) with the exception of Hawkeye who always seems to get the wobbles around this time of year. There are plenty of teams hovering just outside the top eight looking to take advantage of Woggy's crap scoring. The best credientialed of these is of course the Darksiders. It seem reports of their death have been widely exaggerated as they rebounded strongly to dispose of the Alaska's Longwood Lions.

With four games to play before final it's season over for the bottom five with Spuds being the latest team to fall from contention. Spuddy just isn't scoring enough to pull off a dramatic elventh hour scramble into the eight. The Ninjas retain a two game buffer over Dutchy's Dodos and he and chardies look a monty to go down to first division next season.

The Run Home Round 14

1. Poon Army 40 (Richo Richo Man, Hawkeye, Underdogs, Cork in the Ocean)
The Poon Army has lost the past two matches and needs to turn around that form fast. With three top eight teams in the run home Poony’s draw isn’t the easiest. The clash against Richo this week will secure a finals spot and they should beat Hawkeye. The last two matches are tougher so a double chance is not a done thing yet for Poon Army.

2. Captain Who 36 (Underdogs, MILLER MOSQUITOES, Richo Richo Man, Darksiders SCE)
The Captain is travelling beautifully at the moment but faces a tricky month of matches before the finals. I can’t see the Captain winning all of them but I reckon he can win three and retain the double chance. Darksiders and Underdogs look the toughest tests but the Captain will start favourite in all four.

3. Texas Danger SSC 36 (Cork in the Ocean, The Ginger Ninjas, Longwood Lions, Buddyroughhawks)
The Texan is looking good and is a chance for the minor premiership. Corkys and Buddyrough look the toughest matches remaining and they have a gift against Ginger even though the Ninjas have beaten Hondo before. I reckon they win the lot and go top.

4. Buddyroughhawks 36 (Darksiders SCE, REBCats, Squeakeroos DTC, Texas Danger SSC)
Buddy plays mid table opposition before finishing against a non-contender and then finally against the Texans. I reckon they can win at least one more maybe two. The matches against Darksiders and REBCats are very important and represent an opportunity for Buddy to end their respective seasons.

5. Underdogs 32 (Captain Who, Richo Richo Man, Poon Army, MILLER MOSQUITOES)
The Underdogs have done well in recent weeks but face a reasonably tough run home. They have the Captain first up as the toughest match and win there could make Gibbo a top four side this year. If they can’t win this week the last two weeks will be crucial as they’ll be under the gun from teams below.

6. Cork in the Ocean 32 (Texas Danger SSC, Q Before You, Hawkeye, Poon Army)
Corky has the toughest run of all the contenders with four top eight teams to finish the year. Corky is good enough to win all four but could only end up with one so their finals future has not yet been determined. They’ll go in underdogs for the next two games and if they drop them it will be all to play for against Hawkeye in Round 16.

7. Q Before You 32 (Hawkeye, Cork in the Ocean, The Ginger Ninjas, Longwood Lions)
Q has mastered his team beautifully and I reckon he’ll win all four of these matches and go into the top four. If Q finishes fourth that could make second spot on the ladder the best position to make an assault on the premiership. But Q is looking good and could finish as high as third.

8. Hawkeye 32 (Q Before You, Poon Army, Cork in the Ocean, The Ginger Ninjas)
2013 has followed a very similar pattern to 2012 for Woggy. Last year he couldn’t find a win to scrape into the eight and he could well do the same again. Hawkeye’s percentage is not great so they might need to get to 44 to sneak into the finals. That means they have to beat Poon and Corky to get there. Not going to happen.

9. Darksiders SCE 28 (Buddyroughhawks, Dutchys Dodos, Spuds, Captain Who)
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water the Darksiders are back. If the Darkside can beat Buddy this week then they’ll be finals bound as Dutchys and Spuds won’t match them. I reckon the Captain can do the business in the last week of the finals so if Darksiders lose this week then they’ll miss out.

10. MILLER MOSQUITOES 28 (Spuds, Captain Who, Richo Richo Man, Underdogs)
The MOSQUITOES have resurrected their season in recent weeks and will last at least one week longer as they’ll take out the Spuds. The last three matches represent a bigger test and they’ll need to win at least two of them. Captain Who could bring the curtain down next week.

11. Richo Richo Man 24 (Poon Army, Underdogs, MILLER MOSQUITOES, chardy socialists)
Richo Richo have to beat three teams above them to make the finals and hope other results go their way. If they are still in the hunt they can snaffle a spot in the last round as they play last placed chardies, the only contender to do so. Even though Poony top the ladder I rate the Underdogs and MILLERs games the greater challenge. CoverKing will be a deserving finalist if he can get there.

12. REBCats 24 (Longwood Lions, Buddyroughhawks, Dutchys Dodos, Spuds)
The REBCats have not beaten any top sides this year despite getting pretty close and will need to turn that form around in the next two weeks to have any chance of making the finals. The match against Longwood Lions is a virtual elimination final and thank god for Watson is all I can say on that score. The REBCats should win their last two so it’s all to play for over the next fortnight for the REBCats. I’ll probably drop one of them and finish ninth ACK.

13. Longwood Lions 24 (REBCats, Squeakeroos DTC, Texas Danger SSC, Q Before You)
The Lions have a lot of trades but not enough wins. They have premiership winning experience and even though REBCats and Squeaky represent winnable games, it is hard to see the Lions upsetting the Texans and Q Man. Even if the Lions win the next two, it’s no finals for them.

14. Spuds 20 (MILLER MOSQUITOES, chardy socialists, Richo Richo Man, REBCats)
The Spuds are mathematically still in the hunt which means of course that they are gone. Spuds haven’t been scoring all that well lately which suggests matty has given up the ghost. Still, if he gets back into the swing of things he could turn it all around. The toughest match is against MILLER MOSQUITOES and a return to last year’s form could see them end with 36 points. Even then they still need results go their way. MILLERS to end their year this week.

REB Predicts

1. Texas Danger SSC 52
2. Captain Who 48
3. Q Before You 48
4. Underdogs 44
5. Poon Army 44
6. Buddyroughhawks 44
7. Darksiders SCE 44
8. Cork in the Ocean 40

Darksiders +238 + nic nat V me Barlow, Griffen and Hibberd

The lions last qtr meant darksiders got about 140 out of staker rockliff and Hanley. Scaling alone got him an extra 25-30 points might prove the difference.

Rockliffs last quarter was huge!

I'm projected to win against Poon by 1 point. He has nick nat on the bench so he got Nicholls 121 that I already had on the field. Jeeze I hope Nick nat scores 200 to rub it in haha Kennedy as my captain is the key. Hopefully he can score more than his 105 projected and I should've in good stead

Done by about 45

Couldn't use Staker's 111 so had to put up with Naita's rubbish. Plus I started Hartlett over Goodes and got my captain wrong.

18 chardy socialists 2 12 27012 29424 91.80 8

A massive round of scoring in the Hogg this week saw a host of unlucky losers drop important matches as we near the business end of the season. Poony has finally lost top spot after threatening to do for several weeks as he went down in a high scoring loss to Richo Richo. The reigning Premier Captain Who has returned to the scene of the crime as his mob now tops the ladder. The Captain cleaned up the Underdogs in order to get the job done who now sit in a precarious 8th position.

It's a real logjam for positions in the final eight with even 14th ranked Spuds a chance to sneak into the top eight but winning a string of matches is very tough in this division so all of us 6-8 teams are probably gone but while there is life, there's hope.

The chardies won their second match of the season but all that seemed to do is confirm Ginger Ninjas' Premier League status for next year. The chardies and Dutchys (and the Ninjas) aren't scoring as well as the rest of us so a two game buffer looks to be enough to send Dutchy and the chardies down to Divvy I. It's been a brave effort from the chardies but the ever improving Premier League has finally caught up with him. Dutchy meanwhile, will be the first promoted to team to be relegated back to Division I.

With Darksiders replacing Hawkeye, I can't see any of the bottom ten making the eight although Underdogs might be under pressure from Richo Richo and Longwood Lions.

Fyfe threaten to win the match for you, but his dodgy disposal kept his SC score down.
Conversely Ibbotson had a very good SC/DT ratio and I was happy with that.

It was a tough weekend watching the scores. At times it looked like Minson, Walker, Mitchell and Staker would all end up low for you but then they recovered so I needed big games from Naita and Fyfe. Earlier in the year I would have backed them in to score 215 between them but Naita especially is a real let down recently.

I was behind the 8 ball once I went Swan instead of Pendles for VC.

You had a really solid spread of good scores so I couldn't make up for Naita and Hartlett being so shizen.

Well played.

The Run Home Round 15

1. Captain Who 40 (MILLER MOSQUITOES, Richo Richo man, Darksiders SCE)
Captain Who head the table now and could remain there now that the Texans were knocked of last week. The Captain still has to negotiate three tricky matches to end the season but I reckon they can win at least two of them, if not all three.

2. Poon Army 40 (Hawkeye, Underdogs, Cork in the Ocean)
The Army got a much better score last week and was a bit stiff to go down again. Lady luck appears to have deserted Hammo at the time he needs her most. Troy will get the job done against Hawkeye this week and might collect one of the last two with Corky looking like the toughie of the three to come.

3. Texas Danger SSC 36 (The Ginger Ninjas, Longwood Lions, Buddyroughhawks)
Hondo’s boys suffered an upset loss last week and will need to regroup in a hurry to avoid losing the double chance that looked to be secure as recently as a week ago. The Lions have shown a capacity for high scoring and Buddyroughhawks demand to be respected on this year’s form. Two more wins for Tex I reckon which should be enough for the double chance in the finals.

4. Q Before You 36 ( Cork in the Ocean, The Ginger Ninjas, Longwood Lions)
Don’t look now but here comes Q! Despite having a slight dip in scoring last week the Q Man will start favourites in all three of his remaining matches but games against Corky and the Lions will test. At least two wins for Q because in this league you can never be sure about some of these 50/50 matches.

5. Buddyroughhawks 36 (REBCats, Squeakeroos DTC, Texas Danger SSC)
Buddy slipped up against the Darksiders this week and will face a desperate REBCats fighting to keep their faint finals hopes alive. A defeat this week will start to put the heat on wycbloods and drag them into the middle regions of the ladder. I can see at least one win out of the last three and Buddyrough can make sure of it by beating my hopeless mob.

6. Cork in the Ocean 36 (Q Before You, Hawkeye, Poon Army)
Corky has shown that he is a genuine contender for the premiership by rolling the highly rated Texans. He has another tough test against Q and if he can win this one then I reckon Corky is a chance for the top four. Certainly the loser of the Q before Corky game will find it tough to displace their opponent for double chance honours so a massive game this week between these two gun sides. I’m leaning towards Q Man which could leave Corky 5th.

7. Darksiders SCE 32 (Dutchys Dodos, Spuds, Captain Who)
As if Darksiders were ever going to miss the eight! They haven’t fully booked their spot but a win over Buddyroughhawks has really put the Cat amongst the Pidgeons. Darksiders will smash relegation bound Dutchy this week and should defeat Spuds with all to play for against the reigning premier in the last round. The Dark Side seems destined for an elimination final this season.

8. Underdogs 32 (Richo Richo Man, Poon Army, MILLER MOSQUITOES)
The Underdogs not only went down to the Captain but showed a bit of fragility in the form of some low scoring as well. Gibbo will need to find some scoring potency fast as they face three contenders in the run home. The match against Richo Richo is huge and if the Underdogs win that they could close the door on just about everyone below. Never thought I’d say this but go CoverKing!

9. Hawkeye 32 (Poon Army, Cork in the Ocean, The Ginger Ninjas)
Woggy’s fall from grace is going according to script and their next two matches are must win affairs against teams above them on the ladder. On paper they are a chance against Poon Army but it must be remembered that Poony has racked up two losing scores of 2300+ in the last two weeks and Hawkeye doesn’t look capable of reaching those heights. The death knell awaits.

10. MILLER MOSQUITOES 28 (Captain Who, Richo Richo Man, Underdogs)
MILLERTIME was postponed last week when the MOSQUITOES were unlucky enough to be defeated even though they scored a massive 2451. OUCH. I thought I was the only one that had that kind of luck. If they can go 2400 for the rest of the year then MILLERS make the eight as they play fellow contenders. They’ll need to upset the Captain before taking out Richo and Underdogs to get there. MILLERS aren’t consistent enough to achieve this feat.

11. Richo Richo Man 28 (Underdogs, MILLER MOSQUITOES, chardy socialists)
Richo kept their season alive and now that I got rolled last week the Richmond man is looking a good thing for ninth place now. It will be a one week at a time approach from Richo and they simply must beat Underdogs to stay in contention. I reckon Richo can do this but MILLERS might prove to be the tougher match. Two out of three I reckon and no soup for CoverKing.

12. Longwood Lions 28 (Squeakeroos DTC, Texas Danger SSC, Q Before You)
As I found out last week the Lions are still a force to be reckoned with. They can clean up Squeaky this week and maybe pinch one of the last two matches but that Croc hunting trip could have cost Alaska a spot in the finals this year. I reckon if the Lions can sneak in they would do some real damage but I can see them just missing out.

13. REBCats 24 (Buddyroughhawks, Dutchys Dodos, Spuds)
The Cats copped another close loss thanks to Patrick Dangerfield but in reality we haven’t been good enough this season to make the finals. I would need to win all three remaining matches and have results go my way for me to sneak into the eight which is fat chance considering the luck I’ve had this year. Having said that you make your own luck and my goal now is more about scoring points and winning the Piglet. Relegation avoided but that’s about it.

14. Spuds 24 (chardy socialists, Richo Richo Man, REBCats)
The Spuds racked up a very impressive score at the eleventh hour to sink MILLER MOSQUITOES to keep themselves within striking distance of the top eight. They should beat the chardies this week and victories over fellow bottom ten teams Richo and REBCats could see them scrape over the line but in reality they’ll be one win short.

Prediction

1. Captain Who 48
2. Poon Army 48
3. Q Before You 48
4. Texas Danger SSC 44
5. Buddyroughhawks 44
6. Darksiders SCE 44
7. Cork in the Ocean 40
8. Underdogs 40

Alaska's Longwood Lions look to be the only side to have a chance to break into the top eight after the majority of the top eight teams shored up their positions this weekend. Underdogs won their crucial match with Richo Richo Man and scored impressively while doing so. The Darksiders got a scare from a Dutchys Dodos outfit that went within a whisker of causing a huge boilover that could have got the Dodos out of jail as far as relegation goes. Darksiders got the job done and they look almost safe now at 9-6.

The top four sides all had wins and they all look pretty good for a top four spot with Poon Army looking like the soft touch up there but he has shown the ability to hit back and score well when it appears he's fired his best shot. This round saw a couple of results which sealed the deal in terms of who will be relegated this season with Dutchys Dodos and finn's chardy socialists going down. This ends a lengthy stint in the Premier League for the chardies who have threatened to go down in past seasons and the boom was finally lowered this season. Dutchy has struggled for most of the year after a couple of early wins and he'll return to Division I play next season. Both of these coaches need to be commended though as neither has spat the dummy and given it away and it has made the Premier League a competitive league this year, the best in HPL history.

Looking forward to finals Buddyroughhawks is looking somewhat vulnerable with the Lions looking the best bet for a late entry if they can beat Texas Danger SSC and Q Before You which is a tough ask. The teams on seven wins are mathematically in with a chance but in reality it is too little too late for MILLERS, Richo, REBCats and the Spuds. If Hawkeye can find a few points they can turn it around but on recent form this appears to be unlikely.

If players that are named play, I might be able to find some extra points. This game is giving me the shits. AT least the hawks are on top of the ladder.
