Brett Smid from Walkies would be up there and probably was the best kick of any of them mentioned in this thread.

Lister is the best for me. Has performed over a long time and been loyal to his club when I'm sure he has been offered plenty to go elsewhere. Kells is one of the hardest to stop due to his agilty and running power. It depends on what we are looking at, but the McDonnell brothers have booted a lot of goals at Mitchell Pk (some 350 between them in 2011 and 12). Different level to the best I agree but so, so, so important to their clubs success. :)

Spot on, Yank.

I just rate the fact that Litster and Kells have been consistently kicking goals year in, year out for the better part of a decade.

I agree regarding Lister....for more than a decade he has proven resilient, consistent and has a great work ethic. From Div 3 to Div 1 rarely out of the top 5 goal-kickers in any one season for the Division he plays in. For those that I had a chance to see play and enjoyed their work in recent years albeit "briefly" were (I think Daniel) Herzick, Chris Kluzek and Charlie Rae plus one other from the "past" was a Peter Baker that played for the now defunct Burnside FC. He was tall, had great hands, a "cazaly" type leap and could leg it comfortably from 50 each time. I thought could have played league, but chose not to do so. Player I thought could have been anything if he had is "head" space right and some specific coaching and a training ethic is Shane Scudds. Wasted talent in my opinion.

If we're talking the best forwards in the SAAFL, Litster has to be the one.
Has been the leading goal kicker in every season he's played in either D2 and D1 since 2001.
Only year he wasn't was 2000 in D3 when he was second. Has kicked well over 1000 goals in the top grades of the league including over 100 in a few seasons.
Doesn't seem to have the speed, agility, leap or even the vice-like hands anymore, but still kicks goals!

So people seem to be mentioning the best of the last 10 years. Definitely no doubt that drew takes that title by a long way.

How bout best forwards in the game today?

Ok, let me clarify what I meant. I'm not knocking the choice of lister as the best forward in the game today, I'm just clarifying if people are calling him the best of the last 10 years, or the best in the game today, or both maybe.

Drew would have been #1 forward in the league up until 3-4 years ao, but reckon age is catching up with him and isn't as dominant as he use to be. The old drew would already have 60 odd goals this time of year if rocs were travelling as well as they are now. Not saying though that his 40 goals isn't still a good effort and still deserves a mention and may be some people's 1st choice still too.

When I see Kells named and his running power and agility both mentioned, it makes me think people are talking about years passed, as I doubt Kells would be considered among best in the game today.

BOP, I agree with your point regarding Kells. You're spot on.

I still think Litster is as good as they come in Div 1, and Jamie Solly would be up there too. They both lead the goalkicking with 39 majors thus far.

Litster has been really consistent this season, without getting a huge haul. The past two weeks aside, he's kicked no less than two goals in any given game, with a high of six goals against PHOS Camden. He's kicked lots of three goals and four goals twice, five goals thrice. He's been a pretty solid contributor in 8 out of 11 games this season.

Solly was held goalless against Henley, and only kicked one against Broadview. His total includes one three goal haul, two four goal games, two five goal hauls, a bag of six and a seven goal effort. So in seven games, he's nabbed 34 goals, and 5 on the other four matches.

Hardy is one goal behind them, but 26 of those have come from three games (12 last week, 9 against Henley, and 5 against Salisbury North). So that's a further 12 goals from another eight games. Of these eight games, this includes being held goalless twice, two one goal games, two two goal efforts, and two three goal hauls.

I think ol' Drew is still around the mark compared to the other key forwards in Div 1.

EDIT: Although he's missed a few games, Eric Kells' season has been reasonably consistent, as he's booted 28 majors from 9 games.

This includes eight goals in Round 1, four goals a week later, three bags of three, three two goal hauls, and one goal last week.
