On the weekend the Port Adelaide Magpies had 4 Port Power players playing in its leagues side (there may have been a couple others but i left them out as i was unsure)
So essentially there were 17 spots left for Port Magpie Only players.
If Port Magpies become the Port Power reserves they would have had the 4 players plus 5 others who played league level for other clubs (i dont know who played reserves for SANFL clubs that are on a Power list so i didnt include them but if there was any they would be playing league at the Magpies).
This also doesnt include Eagles aligned Power players who had the bye so there is at least another 2 with Mitchell and Salter off the top of my head.
That would have meant 11 spots would be taking up by Power spots (as a bare minimum) and 11 by Magpie players.
As a bare minimum on the weekend there would have been 6 less spots for juniors coming through the grades at Port Magpies to play league football.
What i also think the article is getting at is that players who are stuck playing ressies football on $50 because they cant crack a game ahead of the AFL listed players will go elsewhere like country etc etc.
I couldnt care whether the Power keep their zones because if they and the Crows come in im gone anyway, im just clarifying how i understood the article.
I'd expect if this sort of scenario does come to fruition, The Jimmy Meiklejohn's & the Sammy Gray type players could name their price for any other SANFL club. In future years any up and coming Port Magpie only player could be poached year after year with the added security of more opportunities for League Football.
That is why South Adelaide recruited Brede Seccull. Both he and South knew that he was never going to get regular game time in the first team at Collingwood in the VFL.
