After that, the next GF rematch on Anzac Day was 1954, and it was held most years until 1985. A GF rematch was held on Anzac Day a couple of time between then and 1997. A rematch has been held every year since '98 except 2000. Certainly in the years without one, there has always been a match on Anzac Day. There were often multiple matches on Anzac Day as well I think, including a couple of double-headers in the 80s.
So it was a GF rematch, then it wasn't, then it was, then it wasn't again and now it is.
Hmmmph. Sounds a bit "manufactured" to me. But then again, rightly or wrongly Pseudo never misses an opportunity to bring Victoria into any discussion. For all the hate, I dont know anyone who brings them into the debate more often.
Pseudo wrote:No. In the SANFL we don't need to manufacture traditions from thin air, because we do not need to pander to Victorians who think the game exists only within Melbourne, nor to television stations and sponsors who need to make money on long weekends. For this reason we only have the ANZAC day Grand Final rematch; a game in which a place must be earned, rather than granted year-in-year-out regardless of merit.

Yet we appear OK with pandering to 1 of our own State's Clubs & move away from a perfectly good 55,000 seat stadium & destroy the BEST Cricket Ground on the Planet plus potentially destroy our OWN competition by considering AFL Reserves Teams in it. ANZAC Day will end up the domain of the AFL because we won't have a viable competition to warrant attending.
Thank John Olsen
Yawn getting really tired of every topic ending in the afl is going to stuff up the comp!!
I'm not in favour of them coming in but you know build a bridge guys !!
Apathy like that is what they are banking on.
What did you do in 1990 when WTFC were on the brink, "build a bridge"?
Pfft...

Why I m bothering to answer this, I don't know, but...
1. I have attended 4 of 10 games this season - 3 away.
2. I have commitments with my son's sport, swimming, on the other days @ Marion Pool
3. I am not "beating my chest" as you say, I actually give a f**k about the competition that I have followed for 35+ years & don't want to see it die.
4. It doesn't have to happen, the AFL & the AFL Clubs are relying on the defeatist attitude you exude for it to happen5. What will you say when your Club becomes the Crows Reserves?
I repeat... Pfft.

PhilH wrote:Two issues ....
Firstly
I don't think the Crows want an "alliance" with one SANFL club.
They just want their own side 100% under Crows control playing at the highest possible level (SANFL league)
Secondly
- even if they did want an alliance
and
- even if they could find a club to take it up
it
would still require 6 of 8 clubs to agree.
or have I missed something?
