1994 wasn't a GF re-match. Port played Eagles at Footy Park, in front of 15k, while on the same day Sturt beat South at Adelaide Oval in front of about 5.5k. Don't recall this being on a weekend.

A rematch has been held every year since '98 except 2000. Certainly in the years without one, there has always been a match on Anzac Day. There were often multiple matches on Anzac Day as well I think, including a couple of double-headers in the 80s.

So it was a GF rematch, then it wasn't, then it was, then it wasn't again and now it is.

Hmmmph. Sounds a bit "manufactured" to me. But then again, rightly or wrongly Pseudo never misses an opportunity to bring Victoria into any discussion. For all the hate, I dont know anyone who brings them into the debate more often.

Pseudo wrote:No. In the SANFL we don't need to manufacture traditions from thin air, because we do not need to pander to Victorians who think the game exists only within Melbourne, nor to television stations and sponsors who need to make money on long weekends. For this reason we only have the ANZAC day Grand Final rematch; a game in which a place must be earned, rather than granted year-in-year-out regardless of merit.

I think you might be missing the point there Booney. Which is the right to play has been earnt.
The concept is solid enough that even though the SANFL stopped it for a few years, it came back. That's more of a true tradition, they just sort of develop over time, and often the origins are lost. The fake, manufactured kind is when a corporation just decides "Okay we have a tradition!" out of thin air. Then goes for the biggest money spinning concept imaginable. Meritable qualities such as performance, valour, guts gets ignored in favour of what draws the biggest paycheck.
Excuse my ignorance (about AFL grand finalists) but I think Sydney and Geelong have been in there a fair bit recently. If everytime these two clubs met at the "G" theydrew a crowd of 95,000, do you honestly think we'd have Essendon and bloody Collingwood as the "traditional" TM Anzac clash year after year?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Yet we appear OK with pandering to 1 of our own State's Clubs & move away from a perfectly good 55,000 seat stadium & destroy the BEST Cricket Ground on the Planet plus potentially destroy our OWN competition by considering AFL Reserves Teams in it. ANZAC Day will end up the domain of the AFL because we won't have a viable competition to warrant attending.

Thank John Olsen

Yawn getting really tired of every topic ending in the afl is going to stuff up the comp!!
I'm not in favour of them coming in but you know build a bridge guys !!

Apathy like that is what they are banking on.
What did you do in 1990 when WTFC were on the brink, "build a bridge"?

Why I m bothering to answer this, I don't know, but...

1. I have attended 4 of 10 games this season - 3 away.
2. I have commitments with my son's sport, swimming, on the other days @ Marion Pool
3. I am not "beating my chest" as you say, I actually give a f**k about the competition that I have followed for 35+ years & don't want to see it die.
4. It doesn't have to happen, the AFL & the AFL Clubs are relying on the defeatist attitude you exude for it to happen
5. What will you say when your Club becomes the Crows Reserves?

I repeat... Pfft.

At no time have I suggested T-shirts with Iron on Lettering, Booney.

What I have asked for ALL ALONG is;
The opportunity to discuss ALL the Pro's & Con's with my Club @ an extra-ordinary meeting of the Members, before they vote one way or another.
I suggest you read the letter I wrote.

My concern is that the WWTFC will 'take the cash' on offer from the Cows & become their Reserves team (aka East Perth) WITHOUT consulting it's supporter base first. I think I have a right to a say, considering I have contributed financially to the Club through Membership, Sales of Club Raffles & purchasing of Merchandise. Not to mention attending 100's of games in the past 22 years since the advent of the AFL in SA.

To trivialize my request to be heard by my Club's Officials (& those like me) by saying what you are saying above or by suggesting the deal is a 'no-brainer' is justification for the abuse directed @ Port supporters & the apathetic AFL Fans in this state. I pity you & those like you.

Two issues ....

Firstly

I don't think the Crows want an "alliance" with one SANFL club.

They just want their own side 100% under Crows control playing at the highest possible level (SANFL league)

Secondly
- even if they did want an alliance
and
- even if they could find a club to take it up
it
would still require 6 of 8 clubs to agree.

Phil, the East Perth model is the concern re: the Cows

$$$ talk & Club Officials make decisions based on $$$
I fear if the price was right for a take over, my Club may be willing to do so without consultation with their members - I hope not

Well I was told by an Eagles board member we will not be the Crows team in the SANFL ! I had a PM from someone who was suggesting the Eagles would be the crows side in the SANFL. And the Board member told me to my face without blinking the Eagles had not met and would not be the Crows team in the SANFL!!
I'm not exuding a defeatist attitude I'm being a realist . I have been approached by so many Eagles fans that they will not be going to games with the Crows and Power sides in the SANFL .
I'm just over hearing about it end of story!
You may have issues with myself but you cant not stop others from saying their own thoughts !!
Well ok you can ban me but meh its going to happen mate face facts . And then carve up ports district and get more in the salary cap ;)
