IIRC the only time in my lifetime South did well was under Neil Kerley.
He had a reputation around that time for inviting those he saw as slackers to meet him behind the Grandstand.

Struth! I didn't know he was THAT way inclined! (mind you, he DID spend a fair bit of time at Genelg)

No wonder Central appointed him....

When I say not playing I mean they are just not showing any faith by their actions.
Nearly every game I've been to this season you just get that feeling that all is not well.
I never thought I'd say this but the sooner coach and club part ways the better! Don't let it fester until the end of the season as it will not help one bit!
Last year we were not great but at least we were right in most games we played, this season is way worse and it just has to stop!!!!!!!!
From what I've heard we stand to lose a few players at seasons end so any inaction could cost us big time.

Good post! Yes, I agree with you. I have been watching the games and went to Norwood on Saturday. There is a certain "Stench and smell" vibe showing through the playing group right now. You can really see it....it is not hard too and I am sure Norwood supporters on Saturday would of seen the same. To be blunt....players not really giving a $hit about their football or playing for the club. Something just ain't right.

Overheard a Norwood supporter say "South have got a good side"....he is right. We have but it is very obvious something this year has gone horribly wrong.

To see improvement in 2011 by playing finals to coming back down to earth with a thud in 2012 but we were very competitive in the majority of games. Now in 2013, we have gone into being embarrassing. Great players not playing to their best or showing signs of not tiring or caring.

Sometimes you have to admit things do not work but you can a least say you gave it a go.

South have a decision to make :

(1) Sack Fuller or ask him to leave.
(2) Keep Fuller and ride it out and hope for the best. (Losing players to other clubs)

I walked in on Saturday and counted 6 South supporters in the crowd. (There were a few more as I walked around to the Coopers hill) It was a terrible look. There never has been a big supporter base but now it is getting beyond a joke. We really need supporters but when you get results that are not at least competitive, you are not going to get them to come to games. This includes our home games record - it is pathetic and laughable.

I am worried in the next few years where South will be heading. It is not looking good.

I commented to my group that south have a good team .. Cross, Liddle, Wundke, Thewlis, Hartigan, Stribling are players that would make most if not all Sanfl clubs best 21.

Cross got a lot of ball deep in defence and butchered it a lot - he is a better player than that!

I was impressed with no. 12 and also 41, whomever they are.

South should be playing much MUCH better than their results this season suggest - and I agree that 4 years is long enough for a coach and unfortunately I think Ronnie might be holding you back now.

Is there any issue with the appointment of Murphy as captain at such a young age and then his dumping this year?

I think that you inadvertently found one of the biggest problems. On what I have seen of them too many of their good players aren't good users of the ball.

Also every bottom team has some good players but it is the last five or six players in the 21 that usually causes the problem. There are some players getting league games at South who would struggle to be any more than reserves players at the better sides.

Also Ronnie seems to have lost a lot of his assistants over the past year or two. Perhaps they were calming influences for him when he was at Woodville and earlier at South.

It was always going to be an important year for Fuller and the club. Although we dropped 4 spots on the ladder last year the fall didn’t feel quite that significant, as we played more consistent footy than 2011, and lost 4 games by a kick or less. Ainger was our only significant departure, and with a handful of new recruits and a promising preseason, optimism was dangerously high. 2 wins from 11 games, winless at home, an average losing margin of nearly 10 goals, a scoring output of 10 goals ppg, a % below 40, an apparent lack of hunger and interest from the players. All factors that make it very difficult to justify Fuller’s continuation in the role. Yet he still has 1.5 seasons to run, on good money, so the club is in a hard spot.

I’ve found a few of his recent quotes in advertiser reviews etc a little bemusing, talking up the player’s efforts in the 2nd half last week, and again against Norwood. We were awful against the Eagles after half time, and again completely directionless on Saturday. While we haven't quite plunged to the depths of 2007, we're going close.

SAFC do not work hard enough ON and OFF the field. Skill levels are appalling and just go with the flow on improving them . Too many good players ( Senior and Junior ) are no longer there and when you are on the wrong side of the coach you really struggle to get back . I think that whilst Ron has been a good coach , my personal opinion is the that game has passed him .
