Insipid 2 weeks in a row. Sturt well deserved win. Eags play song if opposition wins (heard them a lot last year), not sure what happened this time. South due for a win at Noarlunga next week at our expense!

I heard it, it was very soft.

We played poorly, kept giving the ball away at every chance we had, simular to the u18s on Saturday.

Great work by Kurtze and particularly Duldig. People knock the big fella, but he is just so clever and gives 110% every time he takes the field.

And have to make note of the courageous effort by Jack Stephens running back into a contest at the end of the second qtr - inspiring stuff.

Sturt have some very good players besides the Crows players (who all played well). Having said that, the Eagles were pathetic yesterday. Sturt showed fierce desire to attack the body hard while we were timid and not prepared to work hard to get back into the game. Not quite sure what Godden was trying to do with his gameplan. 6 goals down for most of the game yet he continued to persist with our CHF (Ainger/Salter) as our lone player forward of the centre. However he was constantly matched by his opponent and another Sturt player loose in defence. Of course Sturt was always going to win that match up and run the ball out. This happened time and time again. Note to Godden - this strategy is unlikely to get us back into the match, particularly if we don't have fast players prepared to run and carry the ball (which we don't).

We can go on and on about the Eagles being a slow side but Godden simply refuses to address this deficiency. We will struggle to win games against opposition who run hard and spread from stoppages.

I think that the problem's not so much the slow legs but the fact that yesterday we didn't run hard enough off the ball and spread into space etc. If the players work hard enough speed won't be as much as an issue as it was yesterday. A side who's won 5/9 matches is fast enough if it works hard enough IMO.

With the greatest respect to you as a fellow member RB, our mids are the problem and have been for a long long time! 2011 was the last hoorah of a well balanced talented group who hung onto and rated the words of their new coach!
The young and the old gave one mighty effort in the last half of 2011 and guess what... it just got it done!
That is a long time ago now and the game style that it takes to be the best now requires mids to win the ball pressuring as a group, then run and spread as fast as possible; but our lot can't do that unless the opposition is weak and are not working hard to stop it. Re. North Adelaide mid's are the best!
The proof is that we get smashed against the good teams and Powell and Lewis get in the Best Players BUT the opposition gets no pressure at all from either once the ball is just out of their grasp! No defensive action at all from those two and Rowntree, gives opponents all the break they need to set their team up for a nice day
It's 30 league games since the 2011 Grand Final and we are where we are because of Horrible Recruiting except Ainger, THE Hangover and Godden's belief in a game style that was out dated during 2012.
The opposition also can too easily move the ball out of their defense most of the time because we are too slow to put any effective frontal pressure on them with our midfielders
I could go on and on with this but ffs, it's obvious isn't it!

Not entirely surprising given the form shown against Central the week before. Only managed to get a few score updates, but didn't look like the Eagles were even in the game, minus a brief scurry of scores to get within 5 goals early in the 3rd.

Pretty disappointing all grades were comprehensively beaten by Sturt. Must win game against South at Noarlunga or Eagles could be playing for 5th spot against Port after the bye.

It's a long season and can't be getting too down after a loss, or too excited after a win at this stage. It is however, crunch time as far as top 3 aspirations are concerned for the games against South and Port either side of the bye.

Good for the Sturt fans that they put together a reasonable four quarter effort. Not having looked at games played, but I'd imagine a number of young players are starting to get to that 30 game stage, which should bode well for them for next year onwards.

Disappointing from the Eagles perspective that there didn't seem to be much of a response to last week's effort, particularly to be blown away in the first half when we should have come out with intent.

The most unbelievable thing about Sunday was how Godden kept Day on Duldig after Duldig (one of the slowest men in the SANFL) kept getting to the ball metres before Aaron Day. I've never seen a coach fail to change a match-up after such dominance.

That may be true and I used to get annoyed at how Duldig could out pace most of his opponents but having watched him closely since he moved to Sturt more so and has played well against us, I think he is not given the credit he is due. He is a very smart footballer in terms of using his size, his limitations and making the most of his opportunities in a team who has in the main struggled for a few seasons.

What we also foget to take into account is that if the full forward leads quickly and taking into accoutn size / pace, it is very difficult for any defender to anticpate when they go and also then to make up the ground if the ball is delivered lace out. A full back can have a bucket load kicked on him through no fault or lack of his own endevour.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

when this happens the blame falls directly on the midfield placing pressure of the ball carrier delivering the footy.

I couldn't agree more. He has always caused the roosters grief and it is because of his ability to read the game and his excellent speed off the mark. He has always kicked very well against us as well. A much underrated player over a long period of time.

I agree too. He often used to carve us up when he was at the Bays (granted we were pretty lousy back then, but often the Bays were no world beaters). I said to some mates earlier this season that for all the bagging he cops I reckon he'd go alright in our team.
