It happens with guys like me who use a bus or train about once a year. We have no idea what the fare is going to be. I do try to have some small notes or some coins on hand, however, if I know it is going to happen in advance. what gives me the shits is that there are never any notices at the bus stops that tell you what the fare is, and in Melbourne with the trains I never can decipher the notice about "zones".

Cr@p excuse. "I don't know what the fare will be" does not excuse cranking out a 20 dollar note to a bus driver. "I have no idea what the fare is going to be" - surely you have an idea what it approximately may be.
