Dont think anyone is saying Wade is a decent keeper.

I think the argument is whether to play the keeper 'batsmen', or the 'specialist' keeper.

Bats at 6 and gets a ton, cant argue with that but his keeping is well below par particularly to the slower bowlers

Sums him up pretty well, just comes down to whether you think his batting outweights his poor keeping.

In this test if you did a Wade runs for / runs against despite two drops I think his runs for would be comfortably ahead.

Wade should stop his sledging and focus on being an international standard wicket keeper. If he said anything to me I would tell him learn how to keep you hack.

Will be useless in India.

You could give the gloves to any of the top 6 bats and they'd do as well as Wade at the moment. Sure he batted well but he is beyond dreadful with the gloves. If he gets picked as a batsman then fine but it's got to the point where a competent gloveman is required.

As has previously been said on the subject, any of the other options are capable with the bat. Sure not as good as Wade but their job is to keep not bat. Easy to say Wade's runs outweigh his mistakes in this match but had the two guys he dropped gone on to make big big tons then what would be said? Only a matter of time before a simple mistake costs the team big time. He's just been lucky to this point.

For a quick comparison, the fill in keeper for Sri Lanka (who hasn't kept for over a year) has out kept Wade in this match by miles. Wade has made him look like Ian Healy (as a keeper not commentator).

Big question is will Lyon be in our best 11 in English conditions, if not Wade will be more than capable against the seamers.

My gut feeling tells me they will go with the four pacemen, the only time Clarke seems to have any confidence in Lyon is to the tail and all of the quicks have been good enough to keep in the side.

Also watching England in India they played the spinners very well, what chance does that give Lyon on pitches that will more than likely suit seamers.

Other than that while Wade averages 45 his one the safest blokes in the side. Also this is all presuming the better keeper would have caught those catches today. I don't think there is to many keepers in world cricket who would have caught the first one 9/10 times.

We've got 4 Tests in India first and Wade can't keep up to the stumps. He's ordinary even standing back anyway but in India you can't carry a bloke that can't keep to spin.

Keepers who bat like Glenn McGrath are a liability. The Keeper needs to be able to hold down number 7 in the batting line up as well as his primary job of keeper.

Amen brother!!!
Have said it since his debut.
Got selected on the back of a few decent T20's.
Unfortunately the selectors love him so we will have to put up with his incompetence for awhile yet

Agree his screwed in India, if his struggling to Lyon on our pitches no doubt he will struggle over there.

I reckon the selectors are alot more interested in the Ashes rather than India though.

Jim05 he wasn't selected based on the t20 he was selected based on he was the best first class batsmen out of all the keepers when Haddin was dropped.

Can you name a keeper in first class cricket (let alone one who might be considered for the job from that lot) that bats like Glen McGrath? You don't need to average 45 to hold down number 7. In fact very few actual batsmen avearge 45. By all means if Wade can maintain his batting form, play him as a bat but he's gone past the point where he can be picked to keep wickets IMHO.

Pretty sure Peter Nevill made 600 runs last season and has better first class stats.

Really disappointing that what could have turned out to be a great test was ruined by the wickets of Matthews (probably Jayawardene's vault), Samaraweera and Thirimanne. They didn't have to make huge scores, just understand they had to hang around and value their wickets, even if they only got starts of 20-30 each. IT wasn't as if great bowling got these blokes out. Even Jayawardene and Karunaratne got out to good balls, but balls that shouldn't have got them out.

the same can be said about Australia's innings, the first 5 wickets really weren't from good bowling, Australia could have made over 500 with sensible batting & running.

What umpire would change his call if the the review system doesn't give it?

Yeah, that's true. Hughes didn't get a great ball but was one of those things that happens in cricket, the rest pretty ordinary.
Actually a lot of the series seems to have been marred by blokes not valuing their wickets.

Wade just f**ked up what would've been a certain run out...
