I know they came from Div 4 in the notorious Sailsbury West GF clash, I'm not sure if he was coaching them then ?

Took the club from div 4 to Div 1 with 2 premeirships along the way and helped get them to a prelim this year with a very young team, coaches juniors each year, is at the club 5 days a week, works hard, brings in sponsors, players and lots of visitors and treats everyone well and is and always will be a legend....

I coached a Div 2 res team in 2008 that he played in to help educate the kids, he then went and coached the A's. He was a great man then and a great man now. Came in to the MP rooms before our Div 7 GF and emptied all the cupboards to see if he could find a pair of boots when our skipper left his home. Turned the place upside down trying to help, he remembered me from back then, shook my hand and wished us all the best. Then went out and helped with the bar, canteen and whatever else he needed to do. He has a presence about him that commands respect and respect is what he gets in return. Great man and more than just a coach. ^:)^

Agreed the blokes a living legend. Came into our rooms after our GF loss last year just to see if I was alright & to give me some advice to keep our heads up, as my boyhood idol It put an instant smile on a very shattered face. He doesn't have to do this stuff & like Yank says he's more than a coach.

Pretty sure Woody South did it from Div 5 to Div 1 and then straight back down again...Kilburn were awesome this year but before you get ahead of yourself be warned the jump from Div 3 to Div 2 is a very big one

i would have to agree, no point getting ahead of yourself. in div two and one you need depth to cover injuries. so depending on how good your fringe players are you will not walk through.

I think especially this year. Div 3 was a weaker comp compared to last year. Smosh would of got smashed by portland and flinders park if they where in div 3.

When Woody South went through from D5 to D1 we finished out of the finals in our first year in D2, before going up the following year. Much bigger jump than D4 to D3.

I guess Portland and FP would disagree.

Kilburn would need to retain a majority of their list to play finals next year though.

i dont think we would disagree, Portland had a very young list and natural improvemwnt was always going to happen along with a few handy recruits and as for Flinders they recruited the biggest man in the comp and Martinello to go along with Ohara in the big man stakes, and if you remember Flinders were down in relegation zone for the first half of the year which tells me they took some time to adapt to the higher level of footy
