Sorry but that is just a ridiculous statement. I understand from your run down of history in the league you know something about footy but have you been to Indies games recently? Sorry but it sounds like someone commenting from the outside with little idea of the current situation – I may be wrong here.
Having played at BSR in the last years of Mid Murray I can tell you this comp is a long way from what was happening in those days – 4 team comp with Morgan being a bit of a joke is what you call a league that’s not viable. I remember a day v Morgan when we still didn’t know if there would be a game 1 hour out from the scheduled start time! And that was playing with 15 a side. Look at the Indies now and this comp is a long way from this, yes clubs struggle for numbers and there are some very one sided games but I still see it as a very healthy comp. other than BSR, Paringa and Ramco at the top, any other side could win on their day – recent results have shown this just look at Brown’s Well lately after not being able to win a game at the start of the year – one of the toughest games we have played all year was against them. While the top 3 teams are dominating at the moment take a few players out of each side and they come back to the pack fairly quickly.
I can’t believe people are so quick to say lets fold the comp. Where would any of these sides go? What would then happen to all these clubs which people like Big Sexy have worked so hard to keep alive? Until we get down to 4 sides left with teams forfeiting regularly I don’t even think folding should be mentioned. Perhaps Big Sexy’s idea of clubs merging is what needs to be looked at and even then only as a last resort – at least this keeps these clubs alive in some way.
Good luck Big Sexy – hope this forfeit brings attention to your situation and gives the motivation for past players or new guys to pull the boots on.
