I've never tasted it but I have a feeling you are correct, it appears to run from Port River. I always thought it was a man made lake that was enclosed.

Nope, it runs out into the Port River. The inlet is at the Trimmer Parade end ( near Grange ) and the outlet, under Bower Road ( bottom of Grand Junction ) is opened up to twice a day. I think it may be listed somewhere in government despatches.

Yes, it is man made, my Dad's first job out of school ( he finished year 6 ) when growing up in the Port was catching rabbits on the swamp land that is now West Lakes and skinning them before selling them on his paper round in the pubs of the Port for extra money.
