Umpiring of new rules?

Postby Cheech » Mon Apr 23, 2007 2:50 pm

Hi guys, I know its bad to be bagging umpires as we all know the SFL are struggling for numbers.... BUT how do you feel about the umpires in regards to the handling of the rule changes. They seem very inconsistent and its seems each umpire has their own interpretation? Biggest problems seem to be the "hands in the back" rule, with them either paying it when there is nothing in it or there being definite hands in the back happening and letting it go? Also the "arm chopping" rule seems to be a problem for them?

cheech i don't usually agree with you but on sat at our game they really didn't grasp the changes to well at all, you have to give them some lee way but i'm not whinging because we won pretty easy and i'm not sure if they were just trying to even the game up but their interpretation was very ordinary...

UMPIRES

Postby THE BARKING SPIDERS » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:24 pm

in the sharks hackham game, even 1 of the boundary umpires was questioning some of the decisions made by the central umpire

Does the sfl have a choice with the rules at the start of the year
or does the sanfl tell them they have to change them no matter what

Game i played in on weekend was badly umpired. Easily 20-30 soft push in the backs paid. These new rules are wrecking our game.I thought we'd never go the soft way of the AFL but looks like we are.

I pinned a bloke on the ground after hed dragged the ball in.The shit umpire called a ball up so i had a crack at him about the ball being dragged in.His smart arse reply was "Its not the AFL out here mate". This was after hed payed 20 piss weak push in the backs which are an AFL rule. I felt like smacking the F**K out of him.

Saint I watched Willunga/Encounter Bay game and the umps were hot on the push in back rule. Players tried to adjust and use body and forearms but still got pinged. Just leaves everyone confused and angry. Its the worst when they pay really soft ones to forwards close to goal.

It used to be impossible for a forward to get a free near goal now its a common occurance.

The umps were absolute peanuts on the weekend... umpiring is bad enough without the new rules to confuse them .... I think these umps are watching too much AFL and there needs to be a directive from the umpiring coach on how they want our local league umpired.... far too inconsistent and they need to go back to basics ... let as much go as possible and try to be consistent and everyone will be happy

The hands in the back is definately the most contentious if its a clear two handed push thats fair enough but when a guy is holding his ground it is rough and you are right there have been some easy goals given away

If the AFL umpires can't get it right I doubt the SFL umpires will.

I saw another new rule Saturday, Porties player gets a free in the centre circle, his teamate throws the ball back to him but misses and the ball hits a Lions player walking 4 metres away in the knee so its a 80 metre penalty to the goalsquare ??????

One positive the B Grade umpiring was good though.

It is the Emus v Sharks at Aldinga this saturday. The topic of the moment "Push in the Back" rule needs to be addressed, we all know it won't so it looks like this year will be unbelievably frustrating. There was a bumper crowd at Morphett Vale on staurday, heard Reynella had a half dozen out, they will certainly need them if they are to challenge the top 4.

If you continue to play in front Gringo you neednt have to worry. Also the size of the crowd wasnt the only impresive thing on sunday what about the quality of phwff that was flaoting around!! .... the 15 goal win wasnt too shabby either.
