U16's to seniors is big jump for most kids. IMO junior sides/development should be a priorty over having an extra lower grade side. I know there has been a few clearances to Districts for this reason and expect a few more come season proper, time will tell how this will pan out

I agree. It would be ideal to have your U/16's go into U/18's and then into seniors. Something I am sure bigger clubs do not have a problem with. Unfortunately at North Haven over the past 4 or 5 years we have had limited numbers at under 16 level and had a couple of successful years, but this has not equated into them moving into U/18's. I think guys 16+ who are keen to play footy would not have a problem running around in a senior team these days. Apart from the odd story you hear Senior footy has cleaned up and gone are the days of people punching on just for the hell of it. I think the right mix of youth and Older heads/bodies could only develop the kids better than an U/18 comp. I undersatnd the kids leaving to go play U/18's at another club, I guess we just have to cross our fingers that when they are ready to play senior footy they decide to comeback to hopefully a successful senior set up.

I reckon Salisbury West did it really well last year. It might have cost them an 18's flag and they didn't win the Div 5 GF, but boy does their future look bright when the club can play deep into the A and B grade finals with so many kids playing for them. Good on them too. Nearly all of our U/18's have indicated they want to play with the senior sides at some stage this year which I think is great news for the club and for our future. We have struggled in years gone by to get any of them to play for various reasons

A SHOC U/18 team? Wouldn't guys who could play in that team already be playing school footy and don't guys that have finished school but are still U/18 go and play in SH's Old Collegians after they finish school?

We had one Salisbury North kid out this week. We'll be fine, we have 29 under 16s so a few of the more capable lads in that side will rotate through the 18s to make sure we have a full side each week if short.Executive Member wrote:Pag wrote:Salisbury North and Ingle Farm have withdrawn their sides.
How are your numbers mate as I heard you guys were struggling as well - did you get any of the Salisbury North/Ingle Farm kids to come out
