Sounds good but you'll also lose some U/18's to other clubs or they'll quit football altogether as some kids won't feel ready or be confident playing seniors when they can play, and are eligible to play against lads their own age. U16's to seniors is big jump for most kids. IMO junior sides/development should be a priorty over having an extra lower grade side. I know there has been a few clearances to Districts for this reason and expect a few more come season proper, time will tell how this will pan out

Their parents might have something to do with that, my brother told me his best mate, who is taller than me, has a fairly solid build for a 16 year old and would be more than capable of playing senior footy was told by his mum he wasn't allowed to play senior footy because it's too dangerous.   And yet she has no idea what he gets up to on a Saturday night. :drinkers:

TDK, the emoticons depicted in your last post perhaps the reason why she doesn't want her son playing seniors ;)

I agree. It would be ideal to have your U/16's go into U/18's and then into seniors. Something I am sure bigger clubs do not have a problem with. Unfortunately at North Haven over the past 4 or 5 years we have had limited numbers at under 16 level and had a couple of successful years, but this has not equated into them moving into U/18's. I think guys 16+ who are keen to play footy would not have a problem running around in a senior team these days. Apart from the odd story you hear Senior footy has cleaned up and gone are the days of people punching on just for the hell of it. I think the right mix of youth and Older heads/bodies could only develop the kids better than an U/18 comp. I undersatnd the kids leaving to go play U/18's at another club, I guess we just have to cross our fingers that when they are ready to play senior footy they decide to comeback to hopefully a successful senior set up.
They are straight to their word, they don't talk a lot of smoke and mirrors behind windows.

I reckon Salisbury West did it really well last year. It might have cost them an 18's flag and they didn't win the Div 5 GF, but boy does their future look bright when the club can play deep into the A and B grade finals with so many kids playing for them. Good on them too. Nearly all of our U/18's have indicated they want to play with the senior sides at some stage this year which I think is great news for the club and for our future. We have struggled in years gone by to get any of them to play for various reasons

Golden Grove are really struggling for numbers with their 18's this year. Really on the edge of making the numbers or not. Plenty of under 16's though..... just can't keep them after that.... Not really sure what will happen yet but the 18's coach is desperately trying to get some guys back out that played last year...
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Great example of what our club is trying to do and shows that it can be successful.

I heard yesterday that a few teams in the RED division are struggling a bit to field sides. At least 2 will definitely pull out and another 4 could be iffy...

Not good if true

A great number of SHC footballers also play for clubs in a 8km radius of the school. Those clubs have helped the development of those kids and over the years U8 - U16.5 then often have to kiss them goodbye as the kids go to SHOC upon completing school. SHOC fileding U18 in SAAFL willl see that process happening one year sooner. It will be interesting to see how much interest the local clubs take in the develpoment of that schools footballers in future.

We had one Salisbury North kid out this week. We'll be fine, we have 29 under 16s so a few of the more capable lads in that side will rotate through the 18s to make sure we have a full side each week if short.
