Easy answer is to get rid of stupid bet types like first goal kicker. If the betting agencies want to put up a market for these types of bets they do so at their own risk. The chances are they will get burnt from time to time.
Feel a bit sorry for the player in this instance, assuming it was all said “innocently” as claimed.

Quite amazing to think, after all of the education process with the Shaw case, that is has happened again.
The quoted payouts suggest two bets of $200 and $400.
Yes but all up there are reports of $40,000 being wagered on it.
Stupid man. After all the drama around Shaw and Maxwell i reckon he should have got 10 weeks for stupidity

When Goodwin got fined a ridiculous amount of money, you would have thought it would serve as a message.
But then Heath Shaw did a naughty thing.
Did he get 10 games or something silly????
If any AFL player honestly thought it was worth it to have a little flutter, or to let that innocuous piece of information out, then the recent example made of Heath Shaw put them all on notice...
But little Nathan, oh Nathan, you screaming idiot!!!
Should have absolutely thrown the book at him!!!

He didn't have a bet, he didn't tell anyone to. He simply told a family member his might start up forward. As soon as he kicked the goal, he had a bad feeling and told officials of the comments he had made to his family member over the phone within 15 minutes of the final siren.
Different to Shaw, completely. Different to Goodwin, absolutely.
