I would have thought the Foxtel Cup would have suited the front running Eagle supporters beautifully.

All these arguments about whther this club or that club was better or worse off from participated are irrelvant to be quite frank.

This matter is about risk Vs reward.

The risk for an SANFL team with a legitimate chance of playing finals football is the risk of injury. The fact that last season most teams got through unscathed is irrelevant. The fact is they took a risk.

To overcome the risk for an SANFL club a greater level of prizmoney would certainly help, but so would guarantees of better levels of sponsor promotion for club sponsors. The risk for the doggies of alienating their key sponsor would be more of a consideration than the prizemoney.

But with our current finacial position a big pot of money at the end may well be enough to cover the various risks in being involved.

Will Eagles, CD & Norwood players be allowed to play for the SANFL against WA in 2012 - or is that too risky?

The state game is one match, where you represent your league in a game that is CLEARLY of a higher level than an SANFL game.

The state game commitment from each club would be at most say five players, 1 game ie 5pgs and you still get your club byes

The Foxtel Cup commitment could be 22 players for 4 games - 88pgs ... and currently your club gets NO byes.

There is history, honour and tradition in wearing a state jumper even in the AFL era.

Personally, I do not believe that the average Foxtel Cup game played in an empty stadium at 10.30am in the morning, broadcast by commentators who care or know little of the clubs or players, is a better product than your average SANFL league match.

As an example why did the North v Port Foxtel Cup Quarter Final at Adelaide Oval draw just 1500 when their league games at Prospect & Alberton usually average at least double that.

I have no issue with the clubs that see it as an opportunity, I hope they find ways to benefit from it and I hope the supporters of those clubs enjoy the experience .... but not every club sees it in that light.

Sorry but that rationale is the same flawed argument used for the demise of State of Origin Football in 1999. Having attended both games (MCG & Foxtel Cup), we endured the biggest rainstorm since Noah's Flood.

OK from an outsiders perspective the Rd 19 (Sun Aug 14) game at Alberton was a more important game than the Foxtel Cup match at Adelaide.... personal opinion only ... if the Port and North fans think opposite that is fine by me.

State game bigger than the Foxtel Cup? Give me a break.
Id travel to the othet side of the country to watch the Foxtel Cup where I didnt even make Adelaide Oval for the last state game.
And all those naysayers that go on about the prize money. I bet the clubs get more prize money from the Foxtel Cup than they do the State Game. In fact if I remember correctly it COSTS a lot of money to have a state game.
Nationally televised comp compared with a game televised in 2 states only because of a government subsidy. No comparison.
My sports mad daughter knows players from the Thunder and Labrador but wouldnt be able to name one Norwood or Glenelg player.

Only the one pool cue next year, but it was fun playing with 2 this season. I'm not a fan of the bye.

So there is risks of getting injured in a Foxtel Cup game? So what about training then? You don’t get injured there?

As I said before, people are quick to say the AFL don’t care or do enough to promote the local leagues, but when they do (At a cost to them) they are snubbed by the SANFL’s top clubs. No one else Australia wide, just ours. Pretty poor if you ask me and the SANFL should do something about it because it is an embarrassment.

Disagree, keep as it is.

The foxtel cup really isn't important.

The simple answer is play the games at suburban ovals and increase the prizemoney . If the AFL & FOX are so keen on it they will incur the extra costs involved to do this . Look better on TV too.
